Le Mans Friday Service: 21/06

Join us in France for another Le Mans based PH meet

We're back! PistonHeads will once more open the rusty gate to the Parking du Fresne field to host another Le Mans Friday Service.

Taking place on Friday 21st June attractions include a superb bar, a barbecue serving genuinely excellent food, a field and French sunshine (we hope) as well as a few hundred Le Mans going PHers. We'll open the gate at 12:00 and will close at 17:00. The Le Mans Friday Service is an informal affair and all you have to do is arrive, park and relax for as long as you want to stay - easy as that.

The grass has been kindly provided by Le Mans organisers the ACO and we would like to repay their kindness by returning their field in good condition at the end of the day. All we ask is you pop your litter in the bin and don't drive like an idiot on the hallowed ACO grass. Last year we asked someone to tone down their driving only to be ignored, a shame as we work hard to make these events happen regularly and rely on sensible driving to ensure we are invited back. But that aside we had a great day and we can't wait to return.

If you fancy coming along we would really appreciate it if you would sign up on the calendar as this will help us monitor how many people are planning to come along, we'll cap numbers at 600 for now but will see if more space can be allocated as we get closer to the event (it all depends how dry the field is nearer the time). If you are camping nearby and plan to walk that's fine, pedestrians do not need to sign up.

We really hope to see plenty of Le Mans-based PHers there, and as you arrive say hello to us as the PH team will be manning the gate and parking you in line.

Vive La PistonHeads.

Thanks to 1st-Tickets and the ACO for their assistance in making this happen.

I'm in Bleu Nord, and would like to bring my car down, so I'm on the list for now - but if it starts to get full, I'm quite sure nobody's interested in looking at my E46, so I'll drop it off and walk to make space for something interesting hehe

As an LM newbie where is this in relation to the PH private camping? Driving anywhere means NO BEER, so may just walk over if it's nearby.

We aim to do new stuff each year at LeMans, did the drivers parade last year. Ill drive the aston over, however the prospect of driving through mad friday does worry me slightly

It's no more than a 10-15 min stroll from the PH camping area

As for the actions of 'Mad' Friday, last year the street was lined with Gendarmes ensuring we had clear passage. It seems they have clamped down hard along the stretch adjacent to the circuit entrance

Here is a map from last year.

It's really not that far from the Bleu Nord PH Site.

I'll second this, it was fine last year heading back to the PH campsite after the meet, barring a small stretch where each car was stopped for the obligatory burnout, not necessary to oblige dispite the Gendarmes there turning a blind eye and grinning smile

I find its less "mad friday" these days and more "in need of a little therapy friday".

I'm at Speedchills BSJ, so can walk, but if the eeather's nice and we are out for supplies, I'll take the Exige

Went St Saturnin for the British Welcome last year so not bothering going there this year so will come down and have a look at PH meet. Might combine it with a walk to Arnage village then get a bus into town from there for drivers parade.

I know your taking names for parking, but will it still just be first come etc, or will you send out some type of entry ticket?

It really depends on pre-event sign ups. The field has a huge capacity, but only if completely dry. We're also expecting a lot more people to be on foot given that the bar is open and it is Friday at Le Mans.

So if we're heavily oversubscribed then normal rules will apply (no ticket, but names off a list on the gate) but if not then it'll be first come first served.

We have the field for a number of hours so we're hopeful that this will mean a steady flow through the day, rather than all at once.

Important that you put your name down though, if only so that we know roughly how much beer and how many burgers to sort.

But it also is stated that pedestrians/cyclist don't have to sign up. Or do they for the food?

A fair question.

We will over-cater to a point (the guys are used to events like Glastonbury so are used to dealing with the unknown) but we'll work on a total number of cars + X% for supplies.

If all else fails we'll pop up to the shop wink

Really looking forward to this meet.....the ever growing list looks very impressive!
To be honest it's making me want to bring the Cossie back out of hibernation just for Lemans as the GTO Im taking, whilst an extremely rare one, just doesn't cut it in the "interesting car" department frown
