Opinions wanted

hi to all, I'm starting a new business (well, more of a hobby really).

Since i sold my track car it's given me more time to go to events (BTCC etc). I was planning on going to Le Mans and camp - and that got me wondering if there would be any demand for the rental of tents for sporting events like that, as well as things like festivals etc.

I'm not computer literate so it's taken me a few days to grapple with the software to build a website.

Anyway, i've come up with this: [Mod edit}

And i'd really appreciate thoughts or opinions on the idea as well as the website. It needs some tweaking here and there, but i think it's more or less there.

I think the site does what you need it to quite amply. But being totally honest - for the money you want, for let's be realistic a LM trip you need a 'weeks' hire - I'd be buying my tent from Decathlon down there and binning or bringing it home for future use, the prices are way up there! I might be wrong, but I also think they're a bit too 'posh' for what the majority want there.

Go and see Ali on the farm behind your location and see if he'll hire them for his horse shows ;o)

Pre-pitched 'glamping' rentals are quite common at music festivals - carpeted tipis and the like supplied for extortionate prices while everyone else drags their own tent across a muddy field.

I'm sure the market is there, but it either has to be relatively cheap or much nicer than buying a tent and pitching it yourself. What's a regular dome tent these days, £40?

good point- he's done a lot of fencing on my farm for me recently so he owes me one

Agree, that Le Mans type event unlikely to be a market. This idea won't make much money, but i'm retired so i have the time to give it a go and see what (if anything) develops.

The Tents on that website look quite large and whilst it is nice to have room to move around inside a tent rather than feeling like your sleeping in a coffin, They look too big for one pitch on somewhere like Houx.

What happens if they get damaged by pikies, or you fall on it and break it while pissed?

The prices are just too much for a weeks camping at le mans. Like someone said above, you can buy a pop up tent, or dome tent for £40 at Decathlon when you get there, and for that money, it doesn't matter if you fall on it, puke on it etc, as it will be left for the thieving 's at the end of the week.

No way would I want to take a huge tent like that @ £240 for the week and be responsible for it if anything went wrong. I agree that there wouldn't be much market for that at le mans.

As a thought the bell tents are rather the wrong shape for Le Mans pitches anyway. It's a good idea, but since you can buy a four-person frame tent at Decathlon on the Mulsanne straight for £110

and then, in this throwaway society, either leave it for the porkies or take it home, I don't see it being a starter as far as motorsports are concerned. Le Mans in particular has very little to do with motor racing anyway!

Personally i think its too expensive, you could hire a caravan for a week for circa £300, If you were to hire a tent it would have to be cheap, people are just going to buy a cheap tent for a week if thats all they needed it for.
Infact I think you could just about buy a bell tent for £240.

Slight aside, but website addresses with one hyphen in are st. Two hyphens and you might as well advertise yourself as a child porn site, for all the traffic you'll get.

Also, on top of the tent hire, punters will still have to pay for their pitch or do you have an idea to hire a large piece of field from the ACO ? That will cost.

Moto-GP and perhaps the Classic Le Mans would be a better target than the 24 Hrs as no-one has room in their classic car or on their Ducati.

Nick - I know it is only an idea on paper at the moment but, it is still a potential business and contravenes the site's advertising T&Cs.

Hopefully you have received some useful feedback and will understand if we cut it short.
