Older Car European Breakdown Cover
Discussion
This is the breakdown cover that I took with my insurance. I checked that my 1994 car wasn't too old for it, and they seemed not to have an age limit.

ADAC - German version of our AA & RAC - Google them, and you wont go anywhere else. I just cancelled my AA membership and am signing up on Tuesday. Breakdown cover for you, regardless of the vehicle age, model, worldwide. No problems signing up if you don't live in Germany either.
+1Covers any car you are in even if it is not yours- hire car or friends car etc.

If you like what you read or need further help call them on 00 49 94 15 56 73 and ask to speak to and English speaker. They will put you on hold if they do not speak English and you will be transferred to someone who does very quickly.
I sent them an email last year asking to join and if someone could call me back on my work number to facilitate this as you can only join via their website if you live in Germany. The call was returned in less than an hour and I renewed this year by providing membership number and CC details via email when my renewal documents came through, all very easy and painless.

you'd have to try and get it all translated, but quickly summing up:
accident or breakdown, recovery of the car to a garage, or home
they'll send you home from wherever on train or plane, or sort a hire car for 7 days
send keys to you if you lose them
send spare parts if you can't get them locally
hotel overnight if you're stuck because of breakdown
taxis etc in the same case
up to 300 euro for damage from hitting wild animals, unless you are already covered
all the same as above if the car is stolen
they will send you back home if you take ill or have an accident, they'll send your kids home accompanied if you are in the hospital or something
cover travel/overnight stay for a visitor if you are stuck in hospital somewhere abroad for more than 2 weeks up to 512€
a vague 'other emergencies' thing, such as if someone dies, they'll pay for repatriation max 500€
help if you lose travel docs, they'll pay for extra travel needed, to embassy etc, 260€
unexpectedly cutting short trip, sickness or accident, up to 2600€ for flights etc
hotels etc if you have to wait for a medical repatriation
they'll send prescription meds or glasses to you if you lose them abroad
you can also get emergency credit to pay for extras not covered
if anyone's thinking of joining up, and any of the above has been helpful, let me know and I can get a free gift for introducing new members

has anyone with ADAC broken down in the UK and if so, how did it all go?
I am facing £95 to put 2 weeks in France onto AA (8 year old car), and the basic UK cover costs £80 a year.
I've been with ADAC for several years, just renewedI am facing £95 to put 2 weeks in France onto AA (8 year old car), and the basic UK cover costs £80 a year.
Called them out twice, once for a flat battery (interior light was jammed on) - AA turned up within an hour, asked why I was with ADAC and explained the AA was twice the price

Second time a sensor went on the flywheel, and the AA arrived and towed me home - no issues in either case
