Test day, worth going? Cannot make the race itself but figured its a good chance to catch the cars on the full track and maybe security not what it is for the 24hours if you know what I mean and like wandering in the woods.

Security is strong, so you cannot get anywhere special. I was even not allowed into the Mulsane marshal area last year.

You can move around easily and use any grandstand. It is usually a good day.

Test day is one of the best, with very few people, very little security, and a great time is had by all. I have friends coming who can't due to business commitments come to the race this year. I'm sure they'll have a great time. No, there's no rock concert, no ferris wheel, no bingeing sessions, just petrolheads watching racing cars being fettled, that's all. I'll be at Indianapolis and the second chicane with camera in hand. If the weather is the same during the race I can cheat and use the photos for my articles!

Hi everybody
I live in Le Mans, and i can say that the security is the same as in the 24H. From 2011 and the massive crash of Audi, the Prefect of the Sarthe departement took hard rules for ban spectators who are outside of the public area. Police made patrols inside the forest around the track with motorbikes, helicopters, jeeps...also during the test day.

Hmmm. As someone who also lives at Le Mans, and someone who has press passes and gets around to many parts of the circuit, I'll say that there are (I'm not talking inside the main circuit here) probably about 30% of the security staff that there usually are - at most. Going to Indianapolis during the race, there are security people at the Beauséour roundabout, at the right turn to the stadium, 300 yds further at the Mulsanne/Arnage fork, at the turn to Indianapolis and at the post itself. On test day just the first one usually. And I've never seen the forest patrols either.
