Hi all
Looking at booking a couple of grandstand seats for this years race
Wollek tickets only €55 each on the ACO website
As first timers to the 24 Heures, is there any particular reason why we shouldn't buy these? I see where the Tribune is on the map, doesn't look like a bad position?

don't think that you must have grandstand seats, this will be my 28th time and i have never bothered with them, apart from the start and finish you will never use them and you can watch the start from anywhere no problem, during the race you will explore the rest of the circuit and watch from various places, after your first visit you can decide then if you want to pay for grandstand seats for your next visit
Although not essential we have had grandstand tickets ft the last few years. In my opinion its good to have a reserved seat for both the start and finish, although you won't necessarily spend a lot of time in the seat during the race.
Every year we mean to consider whether to change Grandstand but can never remember on our return to the UK which one we want to change too.

Agreed. Had start/finish line tickets once in 8 years and used them for about an hour tops. Personally I think the money's better spent (granted collectively between a group) getting an ACO membership and using the village as a base. ACO Tribune tickets (can't remember the cost) are quite well placed.

Why do you keep on commenting on people who want to buy grandstand tickets? He was asking about the quality of the tribune, not if you want to pay for them or not.Each to their own!

Wollek tickets are cheaper than some others because the stand is uncovered. It's thus not so useful as somewhere to use as a comfortable base during the race.Looking at booking a couple of grandstand seats for this years race

It's well situated for watching the start and the finish.
I've had grandstand seats for a few of the races I've been to and as I see it the pros and cons are as follows;
Pros
Guaranteed clear view of start/finish meaning you don't have to claim your spot hours in advance.
Shelter from rain or sun (if covered)
Less need to carry folding chairs
Cons
I only used them at the start/finish making them relatively expensive.
If it rains you can guarantee you'll be at least a 30 minute walk away from your stand.
Folding chairs are more comfy
Pros
Guaranteed clear view of start/finish meaning you don't have to claim your spot hours in advance.

Arthritis can be the best excuse for a seat in a tribune! That doen't explain why we've always been in La Sarthe since 1996 which we've always rated to be the best. However, this year for a change which we may regret we're in the ACO tribune so we expect to see significant pits action (and get a good shower when we want and have a bar on site). We are race fans so we do watch a heck of a lot...maybe 18+ hours or so (got to eat/sleep/drink sometime!), so a good seat is a good thing.
Otherwise we're anywhere from Tetre Rouge to the Porsche Curves.

Two reasons for me to have a grandstand seat;
Shelter from rain and sun
Guarantee of somewhere to sit and view the build up to the start, the start itself and the finish. You can leave your seat, get a beer, use the facilities and walk back at your leisure to the spot you left. Can't do that in the open areas.
I've been going for many years, tried the cheap approach without on a few occasions and now would not be without a guarantee of a good seat when needed for key moments.
Respect the view of others who may not wish to spend the 50-100 Euros on a seat and I heartily recommend that new visitors to the race take full advantage of open access to grandstands during the qualifying sessions to gauge the benefit. My recommendation, spend a bit more and give yourself a good seat.

I was in wollek grandstand in 2011, next to start finish line, great view up the pit straight, large screen to the right, no cover but that didn't bother me.
this year decided to go without grandstands, and use the espace privilege club aco site by the Dunlop bridge. and go for a stroll around which I haven't done for a couple of years
