That's sad to hear.

He raced in British GTs for a few years.

And a shame that the first and probably only news story about Le Mans is because someone died

Race was stopped for best part of an hour, I do not think that anyone (on Eurosport) had an idea that it was this serious though.

Dreadful!

That's how I saw it, they just coned the corner off and all ran wide single file past it unde the safety car

Having actually watched the first 2 hours there was no stoppage and 3 safety cars out on track with the various groups behind each. This went on for 55+ mins while they fixed the barrier.

Sad times.

Reports I've seen are that Allan passed away in the medical centre. At the time Eurosport didn't want to presume anything and just reported the details available. Safety car period for just over an hour while driver, car and Armco were seen to.
Very sad news, a reminder to us all that Motorsport is dangerous.

Terrible news. Looks like something broke on the car. I was watching from the Porsche Curves when it happened. The race was not stopped but the safety car was out for about an hour. We had no idea how serious it was at the time. The death was announced on Radio Le Mans about 18:30 local time. frown

Saw the accident earlier on TV, I had no idea it was so serious. The car looked relatively undamaged.

The race wasnt stopped at all

It ran under sfaety cars for nearly an hour whilst initially they extricated Simonsen and remove dthe car, then repaired the barrier
