Walkie talkies make the trip very very fun...
Discussion
Was my 5th year doing the journey to Le Mans this year and the first time we decided to use walkie talkies for the journey down there. We had great laughs on the journeys there and back spotting different cars, taking the p*ss out of each other's driving, etc, etc, but the best entertainment was had when accidentally stumbling across other people's frequencies (it seems A LOT of others use walkies too). Whilst stuck in a queue of traffic in a tunnel not far from Le Mans, we started chatting to some guys over the radios who were in a Ferrari Maranello and a Merc SLK as they negotiated the best opportunity to nip past all the waiting traffic. We suddenly heard a "Go, Go, Go!!!" immediately followed by an engine raw as they both flew past. Very impressive. The highlight was some chaps who overtook the Bentley GTC that my dad was driving. They started speculating what the reg plate might have stood for (it ends in AJC) and they settled on it probably standing for "a**hole jammy c**t"
. We thought it was hysterical. I don't suppose they thought for a second that my dad could hear every word they said, at least not until we caught them up, pointed at walkies and gave them a big thumbs up!!
Definitely recommended for making an already fantastic journey a little more entertaining! Will definitely have them charged up and ready for next year's pilgrimage.
