Just taken the stickers off the car. All came off fine, bar one small section on the roof. Probably no bigger than my big toe but it looks like the top coat has come clean off. Oddly it came away very easily so can only assume it was a weak point in the paint work.

Damn! Damn! Damn! Back to the bodyshop then.

Same happened to me on the Clio, but worse! Bit on the wing same as yours. Bonnet was awful! Took all the paint off ack to bare metal. I'd had it sprayed a few weeks before and got him to respray FOC as paint obviously hadn't adhered properly.

It's put me off stickering again!

My roof is original paint and has recently had StarGard treatment and lots of wax. Theres a hole under the clearcoat that looks like it might have been a bubble. Im hoping the whole roof wont need doing! Not stickering next year!

Just a reminder to all, warm up the stickers with boiling water or a hair dryer as you take your stickers off.... That damage is such a shame

Just wondering now if its a possible smart repair job. It's only really the clear coat that's come off.

And no, I had warmed it a bit with a hairdryer, but it had little effect. Having spoken to a friend, I should really have been using hot water instead of a hairdryer.

When I stickered up for last years trip the sign writer recommended what he called 'show vinyl' which after a week of being on the car peeled itself off. It did lose some of it's colour towards the end of the weekend but true to his word the stuff literally fell off!

I will definitely get him to do the same for next year to avoid paint problems

I just put stickers on the windows these days. I did sticker up the C4 when I had it but after many weeks of getting adhesive off I thought better of it. Hope it gets sorted without too much of a hit on the wallet.

Hot air gun is good for sticker removal.

I was pace car at the TVR Goodwood bash 2 years ago.

I had a PACE CAR sticker across my Tuscan rear panel. When I removed that, exactly the same happened, the lacquer coat lifted...but just under the 'C'.

My mate helped out. We peeled back any 'loose' lacquer, used 1200 wet-n'-dry to feather the edges, then used a rattle can to re-apply the lacquer. A lot of cutting compound later, and you can't see the repair. Helps having a pal that is ex-motor trade.

Gave the car a full clean and polish this morning and its come up really well. I reckon its simply going to need the lacquer touching up in that area. I went over it with colour magic wax and after a few coats its nearly gone. MB bodyshop I use reckon it might have been flawed to start with.

Bugger Hope you manage to get it sorted ok - just be careful of smart repairs as they're generally not designed to be long lasting, more to make a car look pretty and get it off the forecourt!

BTW, if that's the size of your big toe then blimey you have big feet!!

lol. Ok, maybe 1.5 big toes. Doesnt look too bad now its been polished. Going to get Merc to take a look at it next weekend but they suggested the paint probably would have been flawed before hand for it to come off like that.

Yeah, I'm well within the time scale. Just got to wait and see now.
