Hope to see it at all! Don Panoz is sueing Nissan and Ben Bowlby because of copyright infringement, as the ZEOD looks rather like a Deltawing, as does a roadcar prototype that Nissan has recently launched.

Bored of Nissan using Le Mans as a marketing tool without having the balls to actually turn up and race with a proper race car.

Really so they don't supply half the engines in LMP2 then ?

Zytek develop, supply and support the Nissan blocks in P2 if we're being picky :P

I mean Nissan want the marketing value of a big P1 result but are too scared to9 actually challenge Audi/Porsche/Toyota. Deltawing was just a cheap and easy PR entry into Le Mans. More chance of seeing Mercedes P1 in 2015.

Well hopefully ZEOD doesn't appear so that Lucas, Krumm and Jann can race a proper car at Le Mans

These look like the patents in question.

They're all described as 'The ornamental design for a race car, as shown and described.' and show various original Delta Wing configurations.

Quite how different a car has to look before the patent no longer applies I'm not sure.

They also all demonstrate Ben Bowlby as sole or shared status as inventor. I'd say he has a fair shout at winning.

Very strong rumours of a 2015 Nissan LMP1, including talk of a programme already in place.

I've no issue with Nissan. I think they've looked at the event, seen what they can do to maximise their investment and gone for it. You have to respect what they've done and what they've achieved in a relatively short period of time. They've certainly not shied away from controversy and doing things their way, but I think most importantly, they've backed up most of what they said they were going to do (gamer to racer, certainly) with hard results.

Le Mans has always been about innovation, this has just been innovation outside of the normal accepted parameters. Takes some getting used to, but works for me. There have been far far shallower badge exercises, after all!

Bowlby as the Inventer but Delta Wing are Assignee.

"Often, inventors assign their inventions to their corporate or university employers. When this occurs, inventorship and ownership of the patent differs. Here, the corporate or university assignee, and not the inventors themselves, owns the rights in the patent. Unless there is an agreement requiring it, the assignee/owner does not have to make any payments to the assignor/inventor for exploiting the patent."

I'm in both camps here in that I applaud what they have done so far, but think it needs to be backed up by something more very soon if the sheen isn't to be taken off - either a P1 car or a GTE GTR.

The backing on the Deltawing must have got someone in marketing a promotion, it was genius.

+1 on this

I'd love to see more P1's, or again, a GTE class GTR would be amazing.

And whatever materialised has to be based on a silver car, so I can do the 32 like it!

In all seriousness, I think they'd cause a bit of a storm in P1.

They have a GT Daytona class GTR just announced for the TUSC (basically the American endurance series) but that is not GTE spec

+1 on that. To many Ferrari and porsche last year. We need a good sample of all the top class gt / supercars at Le Mans. Maybe we'll see a GT tesla in years to come wink

I agree, I'd love to see something more akin to the international GT open, Mercs, Mclarens, V12 Astons! a wider representation of the GT class imo, did I mention they are stonkingly fast too.
