GPS with radar

You are probably aware that radar detection became illegal in France a year or so back, but things have moved on. It is now quite possible - and legal - to have exactly the same thing in your GPS provided that it does not mention radar but, as my new Becker does in the Mercedes , "dangerous areas". I updated the old Tom Tom and it has the same. So, unless you have a specific radar detector like the Coyote here, you are clean and green, although the new Coyote no longer detects mobile radars. Anyway, according to the paper, they are all obsolete because the police cars are equipped with the new infra red system that works out the speed difference between your car and theirs and there is no flash. We're doomed I tell you, doomed!

I think the UK do-gooders are ruing the day when they changed the camera description from "Speed Cameras" to "Safety Cameras" how could they possibly then justify us not having them available in our Sat Nav or whatever ??

Surely that would be unsafe if we did not know where they are ?

I had a close shave a couple of years ago with a road angel. I was stopped at a road side check point at a cross roads in the middle of nowhere on the way back from Le mans, the police were leaning into the car to smell for alcohol, they then noticed the R/A which was not switched on. He asked me what it was and I plugged it in and the display read kilometres. I told him the kilometres on the car speedo was too small to read clearly and that the R/A unit displayed the kilometre reading much more clearly.

'Ar' he replied 'Translation' I got away with it.
