Patrick Dempsey: Racing Le mans
Discussion
The programs do highlight just how expensive even LMP2 racing is with engines from Mazda (or is that Maarsda?) and a fair marketing angle to raise cash. It puts the efforts of Henri Pescarolo into perspective.
However, I do think that the production of the series is awful. How many time in 4 hours of TV (less adverts) can't they repeat that he is following in the footsteps of McQueen et al; how dangerous racing is; how difficult it is for Dempsey to manage his business and pleasure interests.

The LMP2 car uses a Judd engine. The references to his sponsorship from Mazda relate to him driving an RX8 GT in the Grand AM series. However, I do think that the production of the series is awful. I actually have a bit of a problem with this; I’ve just watched the first two episodes (on Sky+) and I think he comes across as a bit of a prick.
He complains about having to attend sponsors functions and ‘glad hand’ those who are paying the bills that allow him to go racing (evidenced by his very lack lustre performance for the solar energy company function) and it is made very clear that he isn’t bank rolling the racing himself. He keeps saying he doesn’t want to be seen as a ‘hobby’ racing driver actor and that he raises the money independent of his own wealth etc.
So whilst the racing team are laying off personnel as they loose sponsors and crash cars – he continues to swan about in his SLS, Porsche 356 and classic Merc etc…
Either he provides sponsors value for money - with good grace - or he puts his hand in his own pocket if he doesn't like it.
Just my thoughts.

Whilst I am enjoying the series, and I don't dislike him per se (I think it's good for the sport to have alternative big names coming in to gain better exposure), I think his behaviour at the Trina do was pretty poor form on his part, and have to agree with your comment - if I was the guy from Trina I'd have been pretty peeved at his antics. He complains about having to attend sponsors functions and ‘glad hand’ those who are paying the bills that allow him to go racing (evidenced by his very lack lustre performance for the solar energy company function) and it is made very clear that he isn’t bank rolling the racing himself. It's possible it was just really badly edited. One way to read between the lines of some of the comments made about the gig were that the whole solar industry had just been pushed under a bus. If that was the case what would you do. Just what do you say to a room full of people who think they are going to lose their job and just want to get wasted before the bar bill runs out? Now edit the film in an unsympathetic way and there you have it.Or he may well be a tool too tuckered out from his stressful life of reading out loud wearing a white coat to talk to mortals.

Maybe Wednesday's episode may throw some clearer light?
