Le Mans - visiting but not for the racing!
Discussion
Hi
I am planning our summer trip which looks like a motorhome one this year and am planning on stopping in Le Mans for a night as I want to visit the car museum there. I have never been to Le Mans so could do with some input if you could...
We will have a motorhome as I say - just me and MrsO - we are after a nice campsite preferably walkable to bars/restaurants etc (if not then we will have a BBQ on board anyway).
Also I believe that there may be one of the free/cheap municpal Aire's there in the town. Does anyone recall seeing the place? Is it stayable? Some of the free Aires are really nice and do the job perfectly well but others...not so!
Cheers

Arnage is generally closed in August for hols. So the low cost restaurants are also closed.
The museum does stay open and has a little bus trip arround the paddock areas thrown in.
All things Campingcar are shown here http://www.campingcar-infos.com/index1.htm
There are parking areas in the Techno park - far side of circuit (near to tram stop / stadium) where you could rough camp for a night without hassle. Getting a tram into the centre of Le Mans for a meal, would be easy from here.
Lowdrag is the man on PH for detailed knowledge of everything related to this area. I am sure if you PM him, he will be happy to advise you.

I'll look into it

There is an "aire" in town down by the river but you are only allowed overnight stops, no 24 hour stops.
However it is a small area and often full with people staying over the 24 hours.
You may just want to park up opposite the Entance or down near the other entrance on the tarmac.
Look on google you can see lots of spaces around the circuit which you could use for a visit to the museum and a stay after.
