1st Tickets pitch size

Hi,

First visit to Le Mans this year.
I'm on the PH/1st tickets site.
I think I saw a pitch size of 3.5x10m

I need to buy a tent. Don't want something too small as it'll be no good for other trips in future.

What size could I get without upsetting my pitch neighbours? Have seen a nice 5 man but it's about 3.4m wide. Length is 4.5m and car is 4.5m so 9mx3.4m total.

Well it sounds like you fit and there is no issue!

IMO if there is a little bit of encroachment onto my pitch, I generally don't mind, so long as it is done considereately and someone at least is curteous enough to ask.

But you need to keep the overspill small.

It is worth remembering that if it is windy the ropes needed to secure a tent that size will be out much further, to be honest that tent seems a little over the top and remember that you can only expand if the people next door have room and that is not always possible.

Do you need much space to the rear and sides?

Was thinking car at back half and tent opening out to front. No need to be squeezing down the side

I've got a couple of different Quechua Pop tents for car/boat camping. They are very quick to put up and take down and can get away with very close guy ropes so are very good on space. They are also pretty cheap. I'll be using one this year along with the daddy 8 man tent.

Hi Rick101,

Just to clarify, the standard pitch size is 3.5m wide and 10m deep. This is for you car, tent and any camping equipment. We put the cars on the front on the pitch and the tent at the back.

In principle, you are expected to peg all your guy ropes within your pitch boundaries. so when looking at a suitable tent, please take this into consideration. However, if it does look like they will go over, then have a chat with one of our crew members and your neighbours.

I think our plan is to have two small tents on the pitch so we each have our own living quarters!

Not expecting extreme weather so should be able to get by just using the 4 corner guy ropes. It's only the side ones that would encroach onto next doors land.

Was going to buy the Rock 4 and then have the canopy for extra space in the future but the canopy is out of stock and can't get one anywhere near.

We've had an Icarus 500 on a PH pitch for the last two years with no problem. It's only about 3.1m wide so you can just about get the guys in, it's stable enough not to need them too far out. First year we had a Golf and last year an S40 in front with room to sit between the tent and car on the rare occasion it was warm enough

Er, You might not get sunshine, and you might not get rain, but one thing you will get at Le Mans is a gusty south westerly blowing in for about half the days you are there. We've nearly lost gazebos a few times and I now take 8" rock pegs and a big hammer with me as the ground at Le Mans is a bit chalky. Stake it out properly when you get there and you can stop worrying for the rest of the week. For the gazebos we take ratchet straps and some concrete blocks / water barrels / anything big and heavy. And still the fricking sides blow in. Last year one of the lads ended up with a fridge freezer on his foot. :-=(

How much is a 1st Tickets Pitch? £350 - £400 just for the pitch I'm guessing. Why should you assume you can encroach on someone else's very costly pitch. And if everybody makes that assumption then what? I guess that's why they employ security, to break up the fights!

It's an excellent tent, absolutely no problems with it. Stands up well to the Le Mans wind with the guys very close in. Sure it moves around in strong winds but it's not going anywhere and nothing's about to break, It also has diagonal bracing straps if it gets really windy which serve to hold the poles in shape. One thing, it only comes with fairly cheap pin pegs so I'd invest in some decent pegs at least for the corners as the 1st Tickets site does seem to have it's fair share of stony bits that will result in bent cheap pegs. We tend to put the side guys angled towards the back of the tent rather than out sideways because of space. As it's pitched back to the wind it works just fine.

First year there were just two of us so tons of space, last year there were three of us with no problems. The only "issue" is getting the damn thing back in it's bag but I don't think that's unique to that tent The reason we have a big tent rather than small 1 or 2 man tents is that it means you can sit comfortably in it when it rains and you're not on the floor. You can also get changed standing up which at my age is getting more important.

£500 including ferry, GA, 4 days food and tribunes but I'm hardly going to get upset over a guy rope. If it's in the way of me pitching my tent, I'll move it while I put it up and then replace it as close to my tent as it will go. Who's really going to get upset over a bit of string with a stick at the end of it?

Each? I was talking about the total cost of just the private camping pitch.
So 1st Tickets Private Camping Bleu Nord people, you've heard it here, take a large tent and use some of your neigbour's pitch space.

Excellent cheers. Just been and bought one today (£240), along with a table, some dry food shelving and a small gas canister cooker.

There is only two of us and one is female so wanted the larger tent with standing room.
I do have 8 heavy duty pegs which should be sufficient. Thanks for the advice.

Are you going? I'll make a special request not to be next to you!

In the event it does piss down I'm sure my friendly and accommodating neighbours will appreciate being able to nip next door for a bit of comfort and a beer or two.
