Just looking around online and surprised I can't find any?

Thought it would be nice to show he's not forgotten - not that any of us who were there last year could ever forget.

Quite.
I've a marshal mate who was on Tertre Rouge when it happened. He was first to the car. frown

I have made some designs - shamelessly ripping off other designs but I have not made stickers. If you want a higher res version send me a dm.

Interested to see where all the stickers are for every other driver who's been killed at La Sarthe. Curious to learn what singles Simonsen out for special remembrance and to never be forgotten vs all of the others (presumably forgotten).

It was last year, I wouldn't expect there to be many about in 20 years time, but seems perfectly understandable this year

I can only speak for myself but to me Le Mans isn't just about Audi vs Toyota vs Porsche, it is about the decades of history, the winners and losers and of course remembering those who paid the ultimate price. Every year that I visit Le Mans the ghosts of the past are never too far from my thoughts. It's what gives the place it's atmosphere, same as Monza, Spa etc..

Allan Simonsen sadly isn't unique, he's no more deserving of recognition than any of the drivers that died before him but I was there in 2013 and his story is just that little more personal to me which is why I'll be carrying a tribute. It doesn't devalue the others by any means.

Good post.
The history and mystique of the place was what always attracted me to the race, in addition to a fun and action filled weekend. Jean Louis Lafosse was killed on the straight, the first year I went and then it was the awesomely talented Jo Gartner, again, on the Mulsanne 4 years later - totally marred what was shaping up to be an epic 24 hour race in 86.
But there is a long list (22, I think, including last year's incident) and those guys are all part of the heritage.

Also those dozens in the stands and trackside in 1955. It's a shame that the only memorial to them is a small plaque on the inside of the track wall.

Arguably a hell of a lot more dignified than a vinyl sticker on a car that will get torn off and trashed a week after the event. Personally I find the overt public outpourings a bit nauseating.

I think you're over-thinking things a bit to be honest Matt. We're talking about discreet stickers to show fans respect for the memory of a man and an event which had a major emotional impact on a lot of people last year. We're not holding a repeat of Princess Di's funeral or suggesting statues on every corner.

Speaking personally I don't expect people to die for my weekends entertainment and was pretty shocked and upset when it happened. I appreciate he's not the first, but he's the first in my experience and at the first anniversary I think this is an appropriate response, not a mawkish one.

That's precisely how I view it. At the end of the day everyone is free to choose how they wish to remember Allan Simonsen. Some may take a quiet moment to reflect, others may lay flowers, some may do nothing at all. Carrying a simple sticker as way of a tribute is just another way to pay your respects. From the designs that I've seen they all seem quite tasteful and low key and not in the least bit vulgar.

Just so. I wouldn't mark each anniversary but it is just a modest gesture of respect, a nod in the direction of someone who died in the field 12 months before. Hardly an outpouring of public grief.
