Hi All,

First time posting here, though have been reading PH posts for a long time.

I'm on the beg or buy!

A group of us mates were going to LM this year, with one taking his discovery, and me and a mate taking the bikes (motorbikes, i'm not stupid!)so the Discovery carries all the camping stuff, anyhow, to cut a story short, 2 hours after we booked Friday night in Le Mans town, Mr Discovery driver pulls out.

Now me and Matey are still going but cant (wont) carry all the required camping gear, as we are away for the week and only need to camp for the Saturday night at LM. were looking at either a sleepingbag/bivvy

Does anyone have either a spare hotel room to buy from them, or probably better, a spare bit of space in a van/awning/marque that we could crash in??

My theory being that with enough drink to sedate an elephant I can sleep anywhere!

Any leads or help would be greatly appreciated.

TA

So, not prepared to provide for yourself - but expecting some other sucker to take care of you. Good luck with that.

Ah, see your point Matt.

I've been going to Le Mans pretty regular since 1992, interspersed with IOM TT in both classic and sports cars and motorbike. In that time I've pulled cars from ditches, towed cars for miles, fed hungry bikers, given lifts to strangers, and most things in between. In recent years I've had stoves, gazebos and even a 6 man tent stolen, that's disregarding the odd case of beer and a pair of boots (funniest part being that they were outside the tent 'cause Jon had been sick in them!)

Whilst not expecting 'some sucker' to take care of me (I'm 47 FFS!), I didn't appreciate that asking for 10 sqft in the back of an empty van would be so rude, but point taken.

I'm sure you will have a very successful trip, and will never need anyone's assistance.

Long live the spirit of Le Mans...

Hi Ollie,

I'm starting of from just North of Milton Keynes on a ZX12R, picking up a mate from Essex on an 848.

Bivvy bags ordered!

I read somewhere that they're building a temporary hotel somewhere close to the football stadium/tram station near Tetre Rouge. There were rooms still available a few days ago.

There are some areas where people have been known to put up a little tent in the woods... the woods opposite Houx is quite popular on a Saturday night

I am just north of MK so could take a smallish tent down for you if you have one. Tricky bit would be getting your bikes in the camp without a pass but as we camp on BSJ you could still buy a couple or park elsewhere and walk in

Guys, thanks for the positive replies and very generous offers to help out, however we've managed to find a room for the night in town, not ideal as we would much prefer to camp at the circuit.

But as our 'friend' let us down so late in the day, it would of had to have been sleep where you fall, and frankly Ive done that too much and am too old for it now (what with the very unpredicatable weather in Le Mans too, we could spend 2 days soaked through!)

Again thanks for the generous offers.

Have fun!

There are some make shift hospitals around the track 2 of my mates a few years ago got so drunk they were wrapped in baco foil and given a bed for the night. That was always an option.

It was the word 'won't' that sparked my response. I too have been attending the race for a very long time (1981 being my debut) and have happily lent a hand to numerous people who've had a bad turn of luck - but less so to those who've decided that the inconvenience of providing for themselves means they then have to impose on others to do it for them.
Does that make sense? Hope you have a great time.

I've got to say I shared your view on the initial post Matt. But the OP has explained his situation in more detail so I'm inclined to be more sympathetic with the benefit of hindsight. I must admit though, the "spirit of Le Mans" is always shown to those who are evidently in of it when there. It is a little unusual for a request for this level of assistance to be requested so far in advance of the event.
I'm sure we'll all enjoy it as usual and any one of us will gladly offer whatever help we can to anyone who needs it.

I know things have been sorted, but surely the easy solution would have been to buy the cheap camping kit available at carrefour, head to the woods and then leave it neatly stacked for the French 3.14s to take care of on Monday?
