Hi folks.

I noticed that many of you are planning different routes to get to Le Mans so I thought I would give you a link to Via Michelin showing an alternative scenic route from either Calias or Caen/Ouistreham.
This route takes you through Domfront, Ambrieres les Vallees where I live and Mayenne.
It's a fairly nice road to drive on once you are past Caen.

Hope you all have a great trip.

Here's the link; http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/Routes?strStartLo...

Regards. Les.

@Corbeliere - I'll have to pop down to the Relais de la Varenne for a Demi Pression with you.
I believe that they have 1664 Gold on tap.

We have picked up parts of that route from our usual inbound port of St Malo.

Do not be compleacent about the police on it, 2 years ago every car in the convoy of 7 was booked for speeding on that route.

This year we have a different (secret) route smile

As an alternative, this year the Le BOG Club is going via Bilbao...

See: http://www.7-dna.com/forums/index.php?action=vthre...

That should keep us well away from any Le Frog BiB!

Last time we went north west of Rouen and went through Yvetot, it's about 20 mins longer but equal in distance and we didn't go anywhere near Rouen, no queuing either! Was a nice journey and didn't see any police until rejoining the A28.
Just running that through Michelin it does say it's an extra £10 on tolls though!

We went via Santander one year. A great drive through the Pyrenees was ruined by a breakdown 30 miles out of the ferry port frown

We did this route last year and whilst the tolls are a little more expensive, it's a nicer route down and like you say, avoids Rouen which is a bonus.

As a result, we'll be doing it again this year

Hi Skywalker, yes they do have draught and if you see a Black Bentley GT in the carpark then I'm there. The owners are friends of ours and very pleasant they are too.

Everybody should stick to the Autoroutes, please all stick to the main roads, drive crazy fast and give the police loads of bait...................................................

that way we can stick to our nice scenery, nice roads, nice villages and views on our way down as usual, we always go as the crow flies from dunkirk and its lovely. I think we see all the hooners breifly on two roads as our paths cross (which is enough)

Hi Guys, im takin a motorhome of biblical proportions which has never been a problem in he past but I went by car last year and got very lost and tbh im crappin myself at the thought of getting lost with a 32ft box that resembles a small bus. The route you are suggesting would this be ok for a bus of this size and weight circa 8 tonnes. Thanks in advance, Chris

Hi. Finals2land.

Yes, it's 'A' roads at minimum and is used by HGV's so you should have no problems.
Should be an interesting trip for you.
Hope you land safely.

A good-looking route.

I've done similarly for my group, using Google Maps. Using the new version of Google Maps, you can create a custom route and then (by clicking the wheel in the bottom corner) generate a shortened URL which saves for future editing and allows it to be imported into the Google Maps mobile app for navigation.

Our route gets off the autoroute just before Rouen, goes cross-country via Le Neubourg, Verneuil, Belleme, and then into Le Mans from the East.
We're taking in some great roads, some beautiful countryside, and hopefully avoiding the beady eye of the law.

I am doing a similar route tomorrow but with a more coastal drive to Dieppe, Le Havre and then Caen

Looking forward to the chilled cruise down...

After of course my usual stop at the Tobacco Warehouse in Aidenkurk Belgium smile

I'll keep an eye out. I'm in a blue BMW 5 with a PH smiley on the back. I love popping in there for drinks or food. Brilliant people.

I thought I had a route sorted but am open to suggestions from others as I've never driven in France before. - I'm not worried about time so what's the "nicest" route from Calais bearing in mind that I'm in a Land Rover?
