Where to watch (no grandstand seat)
Discussion
There's plenty of good places to watch the opening laps of the race but which one suits you best will depend on what else you want to see. Finding somewhere opposite a big screen will keep you up to date with the build up (with Radio LM of course) so looking for the screen locations as you wander round the circuit on Thursday/Friday is the way to go. Inside the circuit between the run from Dunlop bridge to the Esses and the inside of Tertre rouge are both usually pretty good, or on the Dunlop chicane. Get in early, take a folding chair, a cooler, sunscreen and enjoy!

Are Mulsanne and Arnage easy to get to guys?
Arnage is just a case of following the queue of traffic, either in a car or on foot. Both take the same time, 60-90mins from the main gate.Mulsanne is further out and I wouldn't like to trust the road signs so take a map (and probably not so walkable)
Down from the Dunlop Chicane.......
We have positioned ourselves here every year we've been and it's great - we were grandstand for Alan's coming together with the Ferrari a few years back. We honestly didn't think he was going to walk away from that. Most relieved when he did. It fills up quickly though, so if you are taking chairs best advice is to position yourself a good couple of hours before the race start

Thanks for all the tips people, please keep them coming.
Probably a silly question, but are there any viewing areas that are less packed than others?
Last year we just did the village, ACO Enclosure and the grandstand we were in.
We'd like to see a bit more this time, preferably walking cos it looks a nightmare trying to move around in the car

Walk on the outside of the circuit, past the fair and big wheel and on behind the pits for the Porsche I think it is. Then grab a left to the banking for the run to the final chicane and pit entrance. At night there it is stunning seeing the over takes the pit entry dives and the glowing breaks. At night you will get a perfect view it is almost empty around midnight.

Arnage is just a case of following the queue of traffic, either in a car or on foot. Atleast theres a shuttle coach for mulsanne...

Is there any form of bicycle rent at the circuit? Dont have a bike carrier (or in all honesty usable bikes...), and regardless of how drunk we may be, hours walking doesnt sound like fun!

Might be leaving it a bit late to order and receive them but if you have space in the cars you could always take folding bikes. Yes, you'd look like a prat but they are good for getting around on. Don't have to spend a fortune either, they can be bought for under £100 new and for much less on eBay or Gumtree. Atleast theres a shuttle coach for mulsanne...

Examples under £100 on Fleabay:
