My mate travelled down early this morning to his place just south of Le Man. He said the Gendies have put new Cameras disguised as Posts and the are hiding in the bushes with radar guns. They are new and are there for only one reason, to catch the Brits on the way down. They were not there last week he said so its obvious who they are for. Take care gents, DONT FILL THE FROGGIES COFFERS FOR THEM

Thanks for the heads up - why do they need the camera/posts if they are hiding in the bushes with radar guns though?!

They are wearing camouflage too so you can't see them.

Parking places and lay-bys are another favourite haunt.
The have Scoobies and motorbikes just waiting for you.

I got done a few years ago.. One of them just radioed ahead. Got pulled 3 miles down the road.

The cop said to me - "We had a good day today. It seems the British love contributing to the French economy. Shall we seen you next year?"

The cameras are advertised with a hoofing big sign a mile ahead. If you can't see the sign - you really shouldn't be on the road.
Being in the hedges etc - is where there are no fixed cameras.

Ah, thanks - OP sounded like they we're combining cameras with radar traps. Also sounded like these might be a new design of camera, intended to look like a post, rather than the familiar big grey box things.

Just stay below the speed limit - and you will be fine.

Saw a whole convoy of cars being done last year. At the lepton count they past me, it would be an eye waveringly painful fine.

glad we are coming from the west to le mans. Only ever seen one police car ( which was being pulled out of a ditch) coming from either the north or West of le mans in 8 years. OK once we get close to the city they are about

Use D Day tactics and fool them by using the St Malo crossing in that case.

Considering that will need to be under 90 kmh it's going to be a slow run.

Considering just sticking to the auto route now. We always go the N138 and have never come across any cameras in previous years.

There's gratitude, 70 years on and their attacking the Brits who bailed them out winkwinkwinkwink (joke, really joking, I won't be speeding over there)

Regarding the new version do they still stick a warning sign a couple of hundred yards up the road?

If so hardly much to be worried about I have thought.

The gendarmes pretending to be an extra from predator are much more of an issue I'd imagine.

These fixed Cameras are no threat for a UK registered car (For the time being) There is NO cross border prosecution. They also tell you they're there in advance.

If you get flashed at there is no need to worry.

Hand held mobile radar guns on the other hand are very much to be avoided. They are cleverly hidden and enforced very efficiently. The speeding fines are instant, Cash only and , if you were being an idiot, very harsh.

A very bad idea to break the French speed limits on Autoroutes or main roads by more than a few kms.

Yeah the fixed cameras have always been easy to spot its the sneaky chaps hiding in bushes that are the problem.
