Hi - been googling as I thought this would have been asked before. Not in the top 10 pages so gave up...

During race week can you drive down the D338(Mulsanne Straight), D140 back up to to Arnage and D139 on to the split before Porsche Curves where you hit the roundabout with D92. FYI Here it is on Google maps:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/47.9618276,0.223...

Never thought to do it before. We normally arrive under the Tetre Rouge tunnel and IIRC the entrance onto Mulsanne straight is closed. But is this all weekend - or just because we normally get there about 2 hours before 1st practice on Wednesday? I.e. do they close it for practice / qualifying etc and then reopen?

If it is possible I'll be doing a 3/4 lap before setting up camp smile Obviously bearing in mind that Gendamerie will be looking to rescue the French economy with British assistance. Though in a loaded up Xtrail with dubious tyres I doubt I'll be able to reach fine gathering speeds anyway.

Last year I remember we left backwards up the start of the Mulsanne - from down the roundabout near McDonalds and saw the flowers by the Armco frown

As a side note - I've driven it in an HDI FAP, and an Audi R15, but on GT5 on my PS3. That gave me a good idea how hard it is to have a braking point at 200+ mph! I found it was easier to stick it in easy mode and go straight across the grass on the Mulsanne. Usually gaining about 6 or 7 places in the process :-) Although one of the roundabouts has a tyre wall in the middle so you have to get the entry angle correct ;-). That last right hand corner before Indianapolis which isn't really a corner is a pig as it upsets the car balance and usually ends up with me going rear wheels first into the gravel. How the heck they manage to do that dozens of times in a row at 3-4am in the dark beats me.

Map was helpful, ta!

I'm planning on attempting to run as much of the route as possible on either Thursday evening or Friday morning so this will come in handy!

Friday's your best bet isn't it - not got a programme in front of me, but there's a practice session on Thursday night IIRC.

Yeah you can drive a reasonable chunk of the public road section. Always makes for some good photos as you go under banners or park on the chicanes etc.

There's also a small rumour of people doing burnouts on the main straight by a pub, something like Mad Friday I think they call it, but really I've no idea what it's all about officer, and certainly wouldn't recommend you consider getting there earlier in the day as the police allow this lot to have a little fun until midday ish when they then come down to keep an eye on things, apparently.

If you're staying Sunday night then Monday's by far the best time as he masses have left already.

Friday is touch and go - recent years has seen the road from Mulssane to Arnage closed to traffic by the police due to some people being tts in the past and spoiling things for the rest of us.
