Hi All,
There is a App on the Iphone called WAZE, and its free! I use it all the time in the UK. Tells you if police are hiding on corners, traffic jams and times etc. really really good.
Not sure if its on other phones so you would have to look.
I will be using this going to LeMans.
Another one is good if you have a few cars in your convoy called VOXER, FREE WALKIE TALKIE
looking forward to my first time there, gutted i can't find my t-shirt for the friday service tho
On the 22:30 ferry going from portsmouth-Cean tomorrow night (tuesday) in the white very cheesed up M3 (e46). Come say Hi ill be the one dozing in a chair as couldn't get a cabin going over.
See you all there

Obviously this only works if people report plod, but if everyone gets on it.
I've been using Waze for the last two weeks at work (do about 5-600 miles a week) and have been saved of being gunned twice!
Very impressed, also wanted to use it for LM but don't think work will be too pleased with the data bill and I can't get it on my BlackBerry.

It's illegal to have the speed camera function on sat navs in France enabled. If not disabled this results in a very hefty fine. So I imagine this app would be illegal too? Mind you how would they know you have it?
Except waze is a satnav that users can report hazards on so a simple miss identifying a speed trap as a queue on an empty road would serve the same purpose.I've been using Waze for a few months now, and intended to use it on the way to Le Mans. It's a really great tool for driving, but falls down quite badly on route-planning (you can't predefine or import complex routes), therefore it will be a backup for my Google Maps route.
It's pretty widely-used in France (you can view active maps with users shown on the website), so I would be surprised if the Gendarmes were at all sniffy about it. Even so, it takes seconds to hide or close down if you do get invited for a quiet chat.

I'm new to Android but can you import a route to Google maps on the phone that I set up on my Dekstop? I've planned a route around Rouen as follows and was just going to wing it but if I can get it on my phone that would be great!https://goo.gl/maps/ylsLV

We find it useful to have our Tom Tom with camera locations switched on but hidden in the car, it's only purpose is to 'ping' when approaching speed camera locations but we use the built in SatNav for navigation if pulled.
If your TomTom is up to date then it's perfectly legal to use in France as it alerts Danger Zones (a stretch of road that contains a camera rather than specific location)http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_...
Just be a bit careful sharing plod or camera locations. Sent from a friend in France. Basically there was a FB page sharing locations, the contributors got raided!!

Tbh, it's not the static cameras you need to worry about. I drive down there quite a bit and know where they all are anyway. Drive with your eyes open and you'll see them just fine. What you need to worry about are the speed traps and they are often near impossible to spot and can be anywhere. They've even been in camo up the embankment before.
