Speeding fines... If you haven't
Discussion
LM and Classic it appears, tend to attract the local plod like wasps around a jam-jar so it is reported. I for one, will be sticking to the limits as best I can, but after reading some posts on earlier threads (and more that a few), this appears not to guarantee that some enterprising plod will say you were speeding regardless and ding you for it, especially if you are driving something more tasty than a Micra!
So this got me to thinking about how I would react if such an event happened.... Not well, is the answer, and given that Monsieur Plod does not have to show any evidence at all (or so I am told), I can see me getting very very shirty, which will firmly place me in the possible 'go-to-jail' camp no-doubt!
Maybe the answer would be to have a dash cam with GPS, where you can PROVE the event did not happen? You could always also swivel the camera to point at Monsieur plod to capture his request and identity? However I suspect that he might want to grab the camera as 'evidence' and promptly destroy such once your are on your way? (purely speculative comments of course)
So has anyone actually challenged such events when you have not been speeding... and what happened?

I am lucky, I have a mate on my LeMans trips who has a very close friend who is a French lawyer.
A couple of years ago this lawyer enabled my mate to keep his car and licence.
I reckon its worth noting down the name and number of a UK law firm that has a French office. maybe a call to them could be useful if the s
t hits the fan

Stop being paranoid - or paying attention to the posts of those that are.Yes, there are lots of police out on the way to Le Mans but it's not because they are out to get anyone with a GB sticker, it's because the events attract a large number of twunts who think it's perfectly OK to travel at speeds because they are in France. Every year you hear the sob stories about how someone was stopped and had their car impounded - and they were only doing 170kph... That's over 100mph and usually an instant loss of licence in the UK and the French take a similarly dim view.
Yes you see the odd story of people who (say they) weren't speeding but still got stopped but I take them with a pinch of salt. I've been going to Le Mans for over 10 years, usually in convoy with a couple of TVRs and we've only been stopped by the police once...because the policemen hadn't seen a TVR before and just wanted to have a look (driving through a village - not on the Autoroute).
Agree with the above.
20 years of Le Man (on and off) and 3 visits to Classic, never been pulled over.
There is always going to be an element of 'messing around' when driving in a group with similar cars; the trick is to keep it sensible, keep it to a minimum and don't hoof about a 90mph+.
If you take the risk, you've got to accept the punishment.

Love the term 'messing around' very true :PThe Beaver King said:

We've been going since 2002 & noticed a big difference in plod activity in recent years. We always take the back routes & were pulled last time for 'speeding' - i saw the plod bike coming the opposite way long before he saw me -we weren't in a hurry, well within limits & cruising, 3 mins later he was pulling us & escorting us to a speedbank. No evidence required, probably straight in his backpocket. Hands up if we were but very naughty in reality. 20 years of Le Man (on and off) and 3 visits to Classic, never been pulled over.
Decided not to bother with Classic in 2012 & went to Spa instead. Interesting to see how it is this year.

I think we should be safe then, a diesel Kia Caren's probably fits that description! It wasnt our first choice but circumstances have led to it and we are very grateful for something with air conditioning and enough space for the four of us
