What does everyone recommend for the Friday?

I go to the CBW every year but have never attended the Hotel de France.

Cheers!

What happens at Hotel de France?

I've always attended PH Friday Service but since that's off the table now we're looking at something else as well.

CBW worth a visit? Is it mostly oldies or modern machinery as well?

Yeah, the CBW is definitely worth the visit, all types of cars on display with champagne tents, beer tents - this is the website - http://www.classicbw.org/?ln=UK

There's a good few cars on display at the hotel de france apparently, seems like a good drive too.

The Hotel de France is very laid back, this of course is a positive.

Before the CBW started it was much busier and had a wide range of cars, but these days it is mostly Astons.

The chap who now owns the hotel also owns a couple of Group-C Porsches, one of which was parked outside last year.

There is time to do both the Hotel and the CBW, and get into town on the tram for the evening's festivities.

The Hotel is a much nicer run out than fighting through town's Friday traffic nightmare.

However, you can do both if you get a rattle on.

If time allows i'd suggest going down to the Hotel on Thursday, before the Aston riff raff takeover (!), and just have a nice spot of lunch and soak up the atmosphere.

We always did the hotel on Friday before the CBW started and in those days it was full of old cars, but we now go wednesday or thursday, yes it is quieter but that is good we can get a table on the square and have a beer/coffee and something to eat, yes the owner has a few nice cars and there are always a few old drivers/well known figures around. It is also a lovely drive. I doubt you could do all three in one day and do them justice to be honest it is better to take your time

Thanks for all the advice! Think we'll definitely try the hotel this year, sounds good, something different.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll make sure to get to CBW!

Worth to get into Le Mans town on Friday night? We usually stayed at the campsite for drinks on Friday.

Since the tram came in it is v easy to get to and from the city centre on the Friday, not like the olden days where the buses stopped mid-evening and you had to wander the streets looking for a cab.

If the weather is good it's worth the trip to sit in the square and have a mildly overpriced beer and then go for a dinner off an actual plate after several days of bbq.

CBW every year for me too it's growing at quite a rate too last year was pretty big!
Get there early though as the parking starts to get a bit ridiculous and those parking in the cul-de-sac last year got a bit of an ear full from the locals iirc.

Fridays always great at Hotel de France. No official Aston event this year. It is a special year for Gulf. The winning Mirage GR8 was run from the Hotel back in 1975. With drivers Derek and Jacky. So there could be something happening to mark this anniversary.

Always HdF for us on the Friday, look out for my Evora, the collection of cars is normally interesting.

This was parked round the back of the Hotel last year

Of course it seems that every town/village is now trying to take a piece of the St Saturnin cake. Arnage have their do on the Thursday, Mulsanne on the Friday and now Ruaudin are starting an event this year too. Of the lot only the CBW is worth the visit in my opinion. As regards the Hotel de France, it's further but historic. There isn't anything programmed at all there though but as a local I use it often.

Exactly. It's the laid back non organised atmosphere with the pervading LeMans history and often some interesting cars.

Love the place and even better after the refurb but the CBW is a rather wonderful show and I would say well worth the annoyingly slow crawl out afterwards

Have always been at HDF and went to the CBW last year.... Never again! A loud screechy woman with a poor grasp of English, massive q's for food, poor toilets and the most random collection of cars ever! But that's my personal opinion, HDF is a little more, well select but if you want a piece of history then we'll worth a visit

Just phoned HDF, its booked up for dinner across the weekend with 170 covers on friday. We are now playing on our Derek Bell connections to try and swing a table.........After 20 years of going, it would be a shame to go elsewhere
