My Le Mans pictures

Another year, another epic Le Mans trip over. This time ours was something like a Top Gear special with all the crazy problems etc we encountered.
We got there wednesday night and got setup so we had all day thursday to chill out and walk around. What we didnt expect though was an insane storm to rock through the camp mid thursday night and try to destroy everything. Two of us were awake and we tried our best to hold onto the large gazebo frame but the wind ripped it in half around us. Ive never seen rain anything like it anywhere in the world. Somehow the rest of the camp slept through it. Didnt want to get wet or hit by lightning more like!
So Friday morning we spent a few hours with duct tape fixing everything in camp and by the time we were done you couldn't tell the carnage that was there earlier. Cue disappointed looks from the grumpy people who were rather smug at the destruction of our camp.
Friday was a washout and ruined our plans but at 4 the sun came out again so off we went to the town centre for the drivers parade which was great as usual. We got Patreeeek Dempsey to wave at us in amazement due to our team shouting of "Patreeeeeek" which was hilarious.
A quick steak frites and back to base via Houx to see what was going on with mad Friday this year. As usual now it was full of d
heads so we left shortly after.
Saturday and finally race day! We managed to get a cracking spot by the Dunlop Curves and watched from various places during the day until our usual night mission to the Mulsanne which was amazing as usual. Last years video -

Sunday we watched from the final chicane before the track invasion. Cue hearing about 10 different languages swearing at the prick with the large blue flag blocking the view. Once again we got Patreeek to look around and wave.
It was nice to see Porsche take the win even though I felt for Webber and the guys missing out.
Sunday night we had 4 crates of beer left and a beer mountain to finish so we managed just that. Pity the wind took its toll over the previous days and it was a little wonky.
So up early for the long drive home and the Hilux battery was dead as a dodo. We got it running just about but none of the electrics inside were working. On we went as we didnt have any other option and about 10 miles out side of Le Mans it died.
Luckily some chap arrived and called a local recovery truck for us but due to the traffic we had to sit there for an hour although it gave us a chance to admire the cars heading home. Got the truck to the local garage only for them to announce its siesta time and they cant look at the car between 12 and 2! An excuse for one last beer while we waited.
Turns out the alternator was fubared so in went a new battery and the race home before it ran out of juice began. No windows, no fans, no radio and no lights yet somehow Big Betsy managed it and we got home very late that night.
Another epic Le Mans over and I just want to be back there. Cheers to RobbyJ's group for lending us some power when our generator died, to Team Cornish Turtles and to the guy with the Porsche who was desperate as us to get our generator going again.
Both cars stickered up and ready to rock -

It truly was a great trip mate and was made all the better by the 'mostly' like minded people on the Pistonheads site. RobbyJ and crew and the Beermountain guys were great neighbours and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again on the next one. As well as some general Le Mans pics I have a few of us all together, so enjoy!!

We passed you on the way home and I believe you were a few pitches from us in blue nord as I admired the DC2 as you left on Monday morning. You all looked great in your hi vis and masks
we didnt stop as you looked as though you were okay posing there on the hard shoulder. Sounds like it was all okay in the end.

Sounds like it was all okay in the end.Yeah once we realised we were never going to make our ferry we just had to sit back and try to make the most out of it. We had plenty of people laughing and waving at us on the way past.
Luckily the Hilux managed to get all the way home without the alternator otherwise we'd probably still be there.

Great photos guys, I especially enjoyed the photos of the game of Arseball TM that some of our group indulged in. You were welcome to some of our genny power, I was staggered at what our little genny managed to run at peak, pretty impressive for a 770w unit, and thanks for your fuel.
It was a pleasure to meet you all and to watch your beer wall grow over the weekend. Sorry to see you broken down by the road side but glad to see you got home OK. Hopefully see you all next year

I wonder if we could market Arseball TM and get it recognised as a proper sport! We were surprised that the gene was able to run your camp as well as our radio and lights. Hopefully ours wont die on us next year although if we're possibly forming a joint mega camp then we could split the load between them.It was a pleasure to meet you all and to watch your beer wall grow over the weekend. Aha Garage Gilbert! We ended up there too for a few days with the BMW 335 we where in broke its clutch. Great bunch of photos, think we might of seen you a couple of times on the way there. You travel down on the Thursday? I remember we seen a white DC2 in a few services.
We travelled down on wednesday although I did see another couple of DC2's while I was there. They're like hens teeth yet they all seem to appear at once!Gassing Station | Le Mans | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
