Is anyone still kicking around Le Mans that can offer a lift back to
Plymouth? Cars broken down and the break down cover is refusing to repatriate.

I'm not in France....Could you get the Breakdown service to take you to Roscoff/Caen/Le Havre? Whatever your return crossing port is?

You might be able to blag a crossing either as a tow or maybe a push on? The longer sea crossings are probably under less pressure to turn around quickly on arrival in the UK.

I had a VW that would not start, and the Ferry company were not happy to take it on board if it could not make it itself. If it drove on and then failed, that was OK, but pushing it on or towing was not going to be possible. This was DFDS in Newhaven last August.

Hope you manage to sort something.

My Westfield chucked it about 50km from Le Mans on the way down. The rain was causing issues with the ignition and after cutting out a second time, I took off the dizzy cap, and unbeknown to me the centre pin fell out, so called to get the car recovered and was taken to a garage just off the motorway, and the insurance paid for this as well as the taxi to the chateau where we were staying. However this is where it went a bit wrong, in that the garage agreed to fit a new dizzy cap and I would get a taxi back to the garage on the Friday to collect my fixed car, but on phoning the insurance on Friday evening, I was told they couldnt look at the car to Monday. However after a bit of ranting, raving, escalating complaints, I blagged a lift home in one of our group's car and my car is now being repatriated sometime over the next 2 weeks. Apart from the hassle to get the car repatriated, the whole thing was seemless and didnt affect what was an awesome Le Mans.

UPDATE

I'm back in the uk, I got a rental car in Le Mans to Calais, stayed over in a Premier Inn last night and got another rental this morning to drive down to Plymouth as my cars here, another Premier Inn tonight and then a final drive back home to Manchester tomorrow.

So, the broken down car.... It was a Mazda RX8, my mate stayed with the car, in the end we found he hadn't mot'd it, it ran out last month, they would touch it with a barge pole. He's basically managed to nurse it back to Roscoff and got a tow on and off, as I'm in Plymouth I'm just off out to go get him. It's random how it's worked out, not happy on being £400 lighter though haha.

It all worked out in the end.

It could always have been worse, I was chatting to a lad and his dad on the ferry who managed to write off their 911 on the way home, top blokes too, I feel we got off lightly really.

Yes just not a nice way to end your trip.

I take a pod drive to lemans and back and enjoy the trip and drive.
Stick to around 50mph 65mph.

Cover all areas as well travel insurance European cover also make a point to confirm all the details recovery back to UK.

Also a fair bit of rain this year there and back.

Possibly this one, glad they got away uninjured. Was horrific weather on the drive back

Yep we saw that as well, it looked a lot worse from the rear. Did they say what happened - aquaplaning in the horrid weather or just a too heavy right foot?

They were not sure if it was a blow out or if they aqua plained, the lad said he didn't even look at the tyres after, too shook up and forgot, they were both okay though, walked away luckily.

My money is on aquaplaning. Just where they went off, there is a mini steam of water running across the carriageway. Easy to catch out anyone. It runs right to left, heading slightly towards you.

I've seen it there in previous years, but didn't remember it until we hit it.

It was tricky in the Jaaaag, would be a nightmare in a 911.

I hope the guys in the Porsche are ok and it doesn't put them off in future. driving

Cheers

I go for aquaplaning too - our friend towing a caravan had a MOMENT at that point and didn't even see the Porsche as he was concentrating hard!

The rain was pretty terrible, both going down on Thursday and coming back Monday. We had to let a lorry blaze a trail through the water and follow his lines. Mate made a mistake of using his NS2Rs for the trip
