I'm staying on the Lycian site at Porsche Curves.

For my other 2 trips we stayed put for one, I arrived by train / tram staying elsewhere for the other.

Two areas I need help with:

1. Arriving Thursday - can I arrive 2pm without hitting traffic problems? What is the best way to come in to the campsite?

2. On Friday I want to go out and about in the afternoon, including quite far out in the evening.
Can I get back into Porsche curves without having to drive through the area where the "d***heads" hang out? If not, how bad is it going past them? Are they just looking for cars to wheel spin (if so no drama). I've seen people say they won't go out from Friday afternoon, is this really necessary? Where do they hang out, and can I avoid them coming back to Porsche Curves?

If that is the old Porsche owners club Thursday will be busy at that time whichever way you come in but arnage route as good as any. Friday you will be subject to the goings on beausejour roundabout no way round it with where you are staying

For you're Friday trip you will just have to run the gauntlet. It gets worse as the evening progresses. In previous years it all starts off pretty light hearted in the afternoon with the crowd just looking for wheelspins and boing / water spraying those who don't. Later in the evening the crowd gets bigger and the roundabout at BSJ is almost impassable resulting in huge delays on the road. I wouldn't want to be out there in my car at that time.

I've seen a big group of people doing the 'shakey shakey' if people don't oblige with the wheel spin or engine revs. If you must go out - just try and give the fans a wee bit of what they want !!

Thanks for the replies.
I was thinking of finding a town 20 miles or so out of town to get some dinner somewhere (proper French nosh).
However, I might just take the tram to Le Mans instead, find a restaurant in town - found one down a back street in 2008 which wasn't busy even after the drivers parade, food was tops.

Sounds like driving on the Friday late is a going to be a bit of a hassle

If your looking to go out of town what about visiting the hotel de France? I'm sure you may find somewhere to dine out there.
We went last year and was a worthy trip

We are staying at Lycian as well and have done so for about 5 years.

Hotel de France is a good trip, or if you fancy something a bit further Amboise is a lovely town with some great restaurants.

As for getting back in on a friday afternoon, if you drive through Arnage to get back to Beausejour it doesnt tend to be that bad. Avoid the road along the pit straight and Houx.

The site runs the minibus service to get about, this is normally pretty entertaining on a friday evening. We normally head off somewhere friday morning, get the cars back on site by mid afternoon and then take the tram off into town.
cheers.

1. Short answer - no, though 2pm will be about as good as it gets on Thursday.

Thursday's probably the biggest arrival day with lots of track action, so everyone funneled in to the still-open roads. This would probably be fine if every new arrival didn't have to follow someone on a bike who manages to cycle slower than a snail.

2. Friday afternoon sees the second biggest wave of arrivals, plus people being dicks so if you DO go out, make a day of it. Leave in the morning and visit the Classic British Welcome, grab some lunch then enjoy a drive in the countryside before a nice dinner and back to the circuit. These days the road past Maison Blanche seems to be reasonably quiet with Team tt operating on the road past Houx, so come in past the main entrance for the 'cleanest' run.

Alternatively just take the tram in to town. If you're not interested in the Driver's Parade and happy to eat early hit the restaurants while the parade is on - they will generally be empty.

There's a number of nice restaurants tucked behind Place de l'Eperon/Rue de la Galere that may well be quiet these days as since last year thet aren't on the parade route any more.

This is all really useful information, thank you, very much appreciated.

I've decided a couple of things -

1. We'll head straight in from St Malo on Thurs morning, so should reach site around mid day after stopping at the Supermarket.

2. We'll go to the Great British Welcome on Friday morning, by mid afternoon we will be back at camp parked up. We'll then get the bus to the Museum for the afternoon, followed by Tram into town for the Parade. Pick up some dinner in one of the areas you guys have mentioned, then head back again by tram.
