Just had an email from 1st Tickets telling me that I’m staying with them and need to think about food vouchers (I’m not staying with them) and giving away the result of yesterday’s Spa race that I’ve not had time to watch yet.

It was a computer error issue apparently.

You say that but it's easy to err. The only people who got the email already sat on a mailing list anyway. If it was some massive corporation that I'd asked never to hear from I'd be irritated but it's not and it's an actual mistake, not ASOS refusing to stop emailing or similar.

I agree that there has not been a data breach per se, but if they can’t separate their subset mailing list from their overarching list, then it’s pretty poor form.

And anyway, I don’t recall receiving an email from them asking me whether I want to opt in or out of their list

indeed, a little human error, there are worse things. There is also an unsub on the email so if you are that annoyed you know what to do.
