I found RAC were the cheapest although my car is 18 years old.
£50 for single trip with replacement car for my onward trip if I breakdown in the UK. Replacement car if mine cannot be repaired in Europe and full repatriation unlimited value

If you add european cover to your annual premium it can work out cheaper, my rac family cover only added 100 to the cost. Not bad as it covers all 4 of us in any car abroad. As both my single cover and daughters were both over 50 quid it made sense, also family cover has no age restriction on the car you are driving or a passenger in. So if you are in a group of cars if one person is covered they can swap around into any car that has trouble.

Well that's got me irritated. 23yo BMW (1995) isn't covered by 99% and my breakdown insurer says no. Only the RAC (£97) and AA (£77) will. Particularly irritating is that the damn thing has a brand new MOT and is a daily driver. It's in good shape but apparently if I had a knackered 10yo mess that was held together with tape and looked like the start of a WeBuyAnyShed advert I could get coverage for £20?

Anyone got any other options? It's a lot of cash when it's going to be sat idle for five days.

I'm with Green Flag..

They're pretty competitive on costs - never mind, just checked and they only cover cars up to 16 years old...

Have you tried the below?

Thanks. Just checked it and same as the other comparison sites - "We're really sorry, but on this occasion we are unable to find any quotations that meet your requirements."

And IF they do cover you have to check that the "recover to the book price" (note NOT the agreed value via your insurance if a "classic") of the car does not kick in.

Green Flag cover older cars if you go through Direct Line. Quite cheap too.

Beat me to it. If you use any of the cashback sites, they usually save a chunk more on that as well.

I had cause to use them last year and had no issues.

See my post up there /\. Direct Line cover older cars using Green Flag. I assume they cover the risk that GF won't cover going direct.

Most banks now offer “ Premium “ accounts for between £10 & £15 per month some of this accounts include European break down cover as well as travel insurance, It is possible to open a premium account one month and cancel it the next, be warned tho most banks aren’t keen to give you this account if try again after previously cancelling one!

Just contacted Start Rescue. They only cover vehicles under 10years old in Europe. Spoken to the call center and triple checked with the operator. Please check your details.

I've got RAC cover included under my Barclays bank account.

If you phone the RAC they will tell you that they only cover cars up to 11 years old in Europe.

If you dig a bit deeper, they *will* cover older cars, but if you need to call them out then there will be a £100 surcharge.

So, that's how I'm covered for my 32 year old M5.

Had my VXR8 covered with them (2009), whereas the TR6 is covered via breakdown with insurance so hadn't realised.

Reading through the thread it appears the OP had found this out already, but definitely worth mentioning thumbup

They did not offer me that option when I called them
