A group of us are heading to the D Day beaches on the Sunday night but looking to camp. Has anyone ever camped near the coast and can recommend a site?

F**k me, Sangatte's closer to Blighty than the D day beaches!!

most decent sized Towns in France have Municipal Sites, usually clean and cheap as chips

Sorry OP, cant recommend a site to stay at but can recommend the beaches and the in particular the cemetaries esp,. the US one as its almost July 4th.

Very poignant some of those that didnt make it are only just of GCSE age. makes you think.

Proper lump in the throat stuff. Visit those then the beaches and La Aromanche (SIC) then imagine being 15 years old on the beaches when the sh it was going down....

A real leveller.

Last time i was down there I was tooling along the motorway at a steady 115mph, when the gendarme pulled me over. Waved a finger at me from the motorbikes then roared off. I think their point was - have some respect....

Enjoy it !

Did most of the beaches a couple of years ago (Farmers held up the road with tractors, tyres and loads of cow dung... round Bayeux).

There was a great looking site above Arromanches, that looked cheap for motorhomes, and there was also a rate for tents IIRC.

Omaha Beach is quite something, with the Public Beach below, and the US Cemetery above.

Thanks for he replies folks. Plan to visit Gold beach as that’s where my grandad landed on D-Day, then maybe a museum and I’d like to see the CWG graveyard at Tilly-sur-Sulles if we get time. My Grandad was injured sometime around D-Day +16 days in an attack in base and 3 of his mates died who are buried there so it’s a album of a personal pilgrimage.

There are a few museums in Arromanches near the Plaza you'd see in D-Day celebrations. You've also got the gun emplacement that overlooks 2 beaches. It's in the Longest Day movie itself.
