Those with co-pilots, can you please get them to mark any 'obstacles' on route?

I'm intending to stick within limits but occasionally I do find myself creeping up a little.

Just watch out. As well as "obstacles", you might be surprised to learn Waze has an ability for users to mark the location of police Speed Cameras and as such is considered by the French police to be in the same category as a radar detector. This category is illegal to have, even if it's switched off and unmounted.

Whilst I'm not suggesting anything whatsoever, just be advised of this!

As a side note, does anyone know if Waze records information about the person reporting "obstacles"? If so, I expect le plod to perhaps be less than impressed if such announcements are made and perhaps follow it up...

Might be worth stating when you are traveling.
Also, not sure if when stopped the Police would be interested to see if people are marking their speed traps, as that is not allowed in France I believe.

According to Reddit (so it must be true) https://www.reddit.com/r/waze/comments/6srri3/usin... - Waze is clever enough to only allow legal speed trap information whilst in France.

In the past it has told use we are entering a 'zone' where there might be cameras or traps, so not a specific location.

Forbidden under article R413-15 of the French 'Code de la Route'. They can fine you €1,500 and confiscate the device or the vehicle. IIRC they're fairly good at telling too.

Don't just take it out, leave it at home. The gendarmes are legally allowed to fully search your car without any cause or sign of one and if they find it, you're still accountable. Best part is that there are reports (on Pistonheads) of people who speak French listening to them talk to each other and many are of the opinion that if you've got a fairly quick car, you've probably got one hidden somewhere. Rings on the windscreen are a dead giveaway too. Leave it at home and use Waze for the week.

Exactly what happened to me years ago. They spotted the bracket on the windscreen, searched the car, confiscated the detector and fined us (both cars, not on an LM trip).

That's quite worrying, I'm glad I saw this post now!!

I'd assume this is incorrect? http://english.controleradar.org/speed-camera-dete...

Make sure you mark them as 'Roadkill' in Waze then there is no issue, just make sure you carry a dead mouse to throw down in case of any tough questions.

Driving back from Spa i was alerted to "pothole in road" via Waze. The French have pretty good roads with few potholes. Pothole could be easier to get away with than carrying a dead mouse rofl
