Decent route from Cherbourg to Le Mans
Discussion
Evening all. As the title suggests we are travelling down from Cherbourg and are trying to plan a good/fun route down. We usually do the run from Calais so this is the first time from Cherbourg. We are catching the 9am ferry from Portsmouth if anyone wants to convoy. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Have a look here, there are some good routes courtesy of lowdrag https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Depends how much time you have.. I guess you arrive at 13.00 today? We took the scenic route down though Domfront And stopped in the beautiful town of Mayenne a couple of years ago and I would reccomend that. Only problem is it can be a bit of a drag and sometimes you just want to get to the circuit and get pitched up as soon as you can!
We tend to head towards St Lo from Cherbourg, then cross country joining the A84 South for a while. Then across towards Fougeres, Ernee and down to Laval eventually ending up on the A81. It's a mix of nice roads and motorway, total journey just under 200 miles and pretty stress free.
Plenty of stop off points to be found and only the A81 is toll.
Been doing this for years and only ever had one encounter with local law enforcement. Our five car convoy passed an on-ramp parked police car probably looking quite guilty with me running point. He overtook us all waving to each of us to back off a bit but we were all cruising around the legal limit so maybe too much paperwork for a solo car.
