I've been planning my route over the weekend, and I was thinking of looping around Le Mans from the west and then going into the track from the south (as opposed to just heading straight down from the North on arrival into the area).

Does anyone have any experience doing this? i.e., is it worth it? Or is it just as busy coming from either direction?

Cheers,
Phil.

It depends where you are trying to get to once you are at the circuit.

We stay in a village south. Head up to the circuit on the D323 and jump off for parking Expo. Sometimes there is a bit of a jam at the roundabout at peak traffic times but most the times it is clear drive in.

Sometimes it is 15-20mins from village to being parked and then just cross the road to the main circuit entrance. Brilliant.

However if I was trying to navigate to other parking areas, I’d get pretty stuck in traffic.

The route in from south did also work for the parking on the inside of the track. Antares. You continue north up the 323 then divert off to smaller roads. It was always a pretty clear run.

Seeing the traffic coming in from the north trying to get to the same area looks a nightmare.

It depends what time you’re heading there. We always go in from above (giggity), do a bit of the ring road then head straight out south to Arnage. Waze always picks this route. But then we normally get there very early Thursday morning and there’s minimal traffic. We’re a couple of hours later this year so it may change.

Ok, interesting.

We're doing autoroute to Rouen, then D roads all the way. Was thinking of heading around towards Arnage and coming in from that way. We're staying in Blue Nord. Does coming from the south make sense for Blue Nord? We're getting the 7:20 Eurotunnel, so hoping to arrive at Le Mans at about 2:30.

We usually skirt the east side of the City, A28/A11/D323 then leave the dual carriageway at Tertre Rouge or head straight to Arnage depending on where we camp. Rarely any congestion.

For years we always go anti clockwise around the ring road when we get off the autoroute and follow it all the way to the D338 and tram line (ignoring the road signs) then straight down to Mulsanne straight. We normally stay in Houx and this route is ideal for us, traffic isn't a problem.

Took our group over 10 years before we found Arnage village ...then it was only because we got lost.....
Always easier for us coming in from the south.....
Lots of little roads lead you in
Nice to stop in Mulsanne and view from that corner
Arnage into the circuit is a busy little road....but always moving

East side is always quieter but no point in routing that way if you are in Bleu - you'll just queue through the middle of the track.

We usually arrive on Weds evening, and don't tend to run into too many issues getting into Houx from the North via the usual routes.

You can stick on the autoroute towars Orleans and take the exit to Ecommoy, which will then give you a ten minute trip back up the D338 and you can enter the circuit at Tertre Rouge, or go left towards Arnage and enter under the Porsche Curves.
