I have heard from a number of locals that one of the TV cameras on the Mulsanne was stolen during the week. Over 100 kgs and over €100,000 yet it disappeared even with security apparently present.

I wonder how you sell one of those on. Not exactly standard ebay gear is it.

I've just found the article in the local press. €107,130, unscrewed from the scaffold tower, and spirited away. Of course, it happened on Friday, when nothing is happening, so I suppose it went during the night.Just like any outside broadcast camera in appearance, I suppose there must be a market for it somewhere. Must have been strong chappies though!

I was watching quali on Eurosport on Thursday and they said the lack of pictures from the part of the circuit outside of the main track was because the TV Companies didn't put the cameras up until nearer the weekend to avoid such issues of expensive equipment being stolen. Shame it still happened even taking those precautions!

We clocked them at ~3am on Weds morning and frankly couldn't believe how big they were and that they were undefended. Wasn't us though.

It does seem odd that they’re not bolted down bearing in mind they’re so expensive and the weekend is known to attract ‘trophy hunters’.

Remember the boat race when they were trying to steal the cameras bolted to the bridges. Some people will nick anything

Security present??

Driving about, we remarked at the apparant total lack of security to be seen anywhere near the cameras!!

They were bolted down. They unbolted them, lowered the camera down I guess and made off with it.
