Sad Day, Beermountain
Discussion
Many forums have gone this way. Trouble is once you're on them people know who you are, can find out where you live etc. Not good if you're on a bike forum - and people wonder on these groups why their bikes are suddenly getting nicked from their garages after they've posted pictures of their machines - it's so easy to get their details, I tried it once then left the group!
Luckily some groups still have sense and keep forums going.

Totally perplexed by this, to be honest.
Went to my first Le Mans three years ago - and found everything out from the BeerMountain forum. Basically arranged the whole thing through there.
Since then I've tried to help others, on the forum and through PMs, and met up with people from there.
To me, the forums are the most important part of BeerMountain. Doesn't make any sense to close them.
Still, glad to have found another here. I've been given so many PH car stickers at Le Mans, over the last few years - it's about time I joined

Try Club Arnage - been going longer than Beermountain too.
In fact Beermountain nicked a lot of content from www.clubarnage.com

I just signed up to comment on this thread, although I've been lurking for years so a big "hi" to all you LM chaps!
It's a shame that Beermountain shut down their forum. I understand that it's their site/forum and they can do what they like with it, but I had made some connections on there with folk I was going to hook up with at LM2019. Also, why not just leave the forum "read only" because it contained very good content?
My one moan about the Beermountain forum was the inability to upload pics no greater than 5kb or something silly like that? I never understood why they didn't get some Google Adsense on the go to help pay for the hosting and disk space, not to mention that they kept the forum out of view for lurkers - only registered users could view the boards?
Also, I'm not a Facebook or Twitter user. I can't stand "social media" and prefer forums rather than my data being harvested by some big corporation(s), yes I know I mentioned Adsense but at least the forum owner gets something back from Adsense..
So, Beermountain, if you're reading this then please reconsider. If it's a cost thing then get some Adsense sorted or ask for donations to cover the yearly hosting costs.

Was a big Beermountain user and particularly from now for the next two months. I'm going to miss it but I'll just spend more time here.
In fairness, hosting and security costs must have been an arse and the whole thing became quiet from July until May. Everyone's on Facebook on a more regular basis. Hopefully BM continues regardless but it's going to leave a hole in my pre-LM months for sure.

Absolute madness.
It's been reduced to the branding above a facebook page. A few friends posting comments on a timeline is not a wide community, and definitely not a community resource anymore.
I know it's not really our place to criticise as we didn't own it (although many contributed, posted, helped, and bought merchandise), but it was so highly ranked amongst the Le Mans sites - that kind of web reputation isn't easy to come by, and it's unheard of just to give up on it and press delete.
Usually it's sold/handed over.
That's without mentioning it was one of the friendliest sites I've ever come across on the internet! A new member posts - within 24 hours there'd be a page of welcomes, and offers of assistance, invites to meet up for beers etc.

Nope, I operated a forum a few years back with over 5000 unique visits per day, the total monthly hosting cost was £40 per month and the monthly Google Adsense revenue covered that cost near 10 times over. Not to mention that I allowed image uploads in comparison to the Beermountain admin who had limited image uploads to something daft like 2kb file sizes??? Very sad that whoever runs Beermountain, decided to shut down the forum. I'm not on social media and have no interest in it, too many snowflakes, but to switch to Facebook etc is a big mistake.

Fair. I understood they didn't have the tech skills so were paying for that too? Perhaps I was wrong. With the new regulations not sure I'd really want to "own" a forum now anyway. Too much on my mind.

Reads like the whole thing was more to do with politics than tech...I did suspect as much. With the new regulations not sure I'd really want to "own" a forum now anyway. Too much on my mind.
