Le Mans Moto 24
Discussion
I have been going to the 24 hours Le Mans the last 2 years and have loved it. This year we have decided to go to the Moto 24 instead, but i am getting very confused as to how to go with my car.
It seems that it is all motorbike or camper van camping. I am going with my tent and my car and was hoping to be able to book a pitch. As far as i can see it is only blue and you turn up first come first served? I cant go all the way there to find out I cant get in. Also there are no showers there?
It is all getting a bit confusing with contradictory information / in French and even Beer Mountain said they know nothing about the Bike Le Mans. It seems to be a trend that the information just isn't out there
Can anyone help me out with what I should do? I know the prices go up in a few days and i wont be able to afford it once they do.

I'm going this year - you're right about lack of information.
What I've learned:
1. It's a big French affair, so information in English is scant. 99% of Le Mans fans are only interested in the car race - apparently the Le Mans website doesn't even show the bike race in the English version, only the French. Yet to the French its a really big deal I gather.
2. It's cold at night, all the videos I've seen suggest often very cold...so bear that in mind if you're camping
3. Camping is a bit wild I believe - bikes revving, bikes tearing up and down, pallets being burnt along with everything else.
4. French bikers really let their hair down I'm told - apparently alcohol is not on sale in the whole area during that weekend. You won't get trouble, but you probably won't get any sleep in a campsite. The pallets are to stop the bikers cutting down and burning trees
5. Seem to be more hotels available than with the car race - I was able to book the Ibis close to the circuit. I'm sure the choice is less locally, but a few miles away would be fine.
I would try to book a hotel to avoid the mud bath and noise the campsite will become, and the fumes from the fires, and mostly the cold.
I would definitely go, it looks like a far more interesting race than the car race, so many teams who could win it, so much factory involvement. Someone on here wished me "good luck" - as if it was a trip to ISIS controlled Syria - obviously never been to a bike meet and still thinks bikers are people who beat up Mods. Assen MotoGP is the same, massive nuts party, never any trouble - bikers are more friendly than anyone in my experience, I've heard the French bikers are the same.
By the way, if you need a campsite I know of one that would probably take you, about half a mile from the circuit. Post up here if you do and we'll exchange information. I use it during the car race. Very basic but very quiet, hence I use it to avoid the crowds and the loud music you often get at the main sites.

Thank you so much for your help!!!!
I have looked at hotels and sadly they are just too much for me at the moment, i think campsite will be the only thing I can afford
I can cope with a bit of crazy (and sleep like a log once I'm out so no problem with noise there) as long it its friendly crazy its all fine with me
How much (ish) is the campsite that you know about? I dont mind travelling in a bit if the price is still reasonable
I'm guessing from what you are saying that there will be very few people there speaking English? I know with the cars that the staff generally don't but there are enough people to make friends with there who do. Should I take a phrase book to get by?

You're welcome!
The campsite I use for the car race is v cheap - I will pm you the details (don't want to make to much noise about it, it's a nice and quiet trade secret!). It's impossible to book because there is no phone or internet option. However people turned up on spec for the car race, there was plenty of space. It's a little hidden so most people don't know of its existence.
As for the race - for the car race most of the people seem to be English everywhere you go, for the bike race I'm told its mostly French.
So I would get the phrase book out!
I've read bloggs by English bikers who went, said was mad but they seemed to get adopted by the French bikers when they were staying on campsites with them. Bikers are the friendliest bunch you could meet. At Assen a group just came and plonked themselves on our table - we still meet up every time we go.
Bring a bicycle and a lock, it will save a lot of time.
I will pm you tomorrow or in a couple of days with the details - soon as I get some time. You will get away with just turning up because its only a tent, this site has mainly campers on it for the car race, loads of grass for camping (there were only 4 tents on it this year, 3 of them were ours!).

Been about ten times but not in 3 years because of kids.
However. Just rock up Friday morning, you'll be fine for camping. There's no booking, just find a space. There's cars allowed in too but mostly bikes.
Take ear plugs if you want sleep. Bikes are banged off the limiters 24/7 and I do mean that. You will not believe the s
t that goes down in the camp site. I've seen:
Cars filled with water and driving round with naked French guys inside in the 'hot tub'
Cars towing baths to achieve the same.
Bikes towing baths as above.
Bikes with exhausts 10ft high shooting flames high into the air.
All manner of two wheeled insanity.
It's a riot, enjoy!

I cannot say how helpful this is!!!!
(May sound daft but I am new to this and don't know how to see PMs...)
you said you are going this year, are you going down on the Thursday or Friday? We are trying to do it without using annual leave so arrive Friday afternoon

I am not going down until Saturday.
I'm crossing the channel at 5am, I've worked out that gives me about 3 hours contingency more or less assuming yellow vest delays etc - and its a holiday weekend (Easter)
Snake Oil has suggested you could just turn up to the main sites, however if they are busy you might get little choice leaving it so late. At the site I use you should find you are fine, so I'd suggest using that one.
If you click against my username there is an option to "email wsn03" - I tried emailing you but your profile is missing that option.
So if next week you email me I can give you all the details of the site I use and its location.
