Lunch/coffe stop with a view on the way there
Discussion
In all my years of going I've not found the right spot for this. Have you?
We're arriving off the tunnel at 10ish on the Thursday, so arriving at Le Mans for 4pm or so. We'd love to spend a while with a good coffee watching nice cars go past while on the way. is there anywhere where this works?
As we all travel at the same speed limit these days you only see a real variety of nice stuff when stopped at services. It would be great to take a break on the journey somewhere a bit nicer, maybe catch a few of the classics on the old road.
Is there anywhere good in Sees or Gace?

If you take the old road down from rouen rather than the motorway you will firstly enjoy the trip more and secondly there are plenty of stops on the way, we usually stop for lunch at bernay but also stop a few miles north of le mans at baumont sur le sarthe, aound thee square there are some coffee shops/bars and as well as the cars stopped there you also see loads of cars going down to le mans, mostly the older ones rather than modern ones as the route is the one used before the motorway opened so long time le mans goers tent to use it.
We've stopped here for lunch a few times, great restaurant and about 3 1/2 hours from Calais, so if you're on an early (ish) crossing is about right for timing.

Gace is also a nice place to stop.
Agree with above, if you have time drive the old route south of Rouen & avoid the motorways.

+1 for the old N138 route S of Rouen. If you can find it!
Whilst the autoroute makes it so easy / fast to get the LM, it’s not half as interesting. I love taking time to use the old road when I can. Even nowadays on the way home theres families parked out in the side of the road watching and waving as we tootle by. It’s a sad way of the world these days to go so fast from A to B that you miss out on these little but lovely experiences.
