We have lost one car due to an MOT fail. Does anyone have any recommendations for hire cars? Possibly something a little more special than a 1l fiesta but definitely not supercar.

I’m sure one, Hertz?, or other of the majors do have an exclusive range, a pal hired a Cayman for a Scotland trip a year or two back.

Google is your friend.

A couple of chaps near us last year hired a car in Calais - said it was cheaper than taking one from the UK. Though I can only assume they lived in Dover!

Thanks I will take a look. Cayman will be top end of what we would look at. Possibly more towards the MX-5/gt-86 or hot hatch end would be interesting too.

We have a eurotunnel crossing already booked and we are coming from London.

What's this crazy talk of hiring?

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds?Accelerati...

Buy a crazy shed, drive it to Le Mans and back, sell it and cancel insurance on return.

OK maybe not a £650 Vauxhall Signum (WTF? Never even heard of one of them before!), But a £600 Jag. X Type if you want space or a £745 Mercedes-Benz CLK for some coupe style.

Assuming you can buy and then resell for the same money if you can get insurance with a monthly premium less than hire car costs you're quids in.

Yeah, for pure Le Mans ethos you have to buy a shed and drive it there and back.

A quick Google reveals you are looking at over £500 for a week in anything half decent. And I haven't checked if you can take it out of the country for that.

Surely a £400/500 barge is going to be much more fun?

So many good barges for £500, 4X4’s, Jag’s, even MX5’s if you want to take up hair dressing too. Barge all the way!

This is surely worth its own thread? You mention you’re in the London area. How about this as a temporary car (in Japanese British Racing Green wink ) & advertised with almost 12 months MOT with no advisories on the last one (& no fails reported on the system) from a quick squint at the MOT Online history check (I’m in no way related to the seller) though it looks a comfy way to get there...

PS I struggled to find anything with a drop top roof close to the same £s as the car in the link on AT, close to London & an MOT!

Love the idea of buying a car just for Le Mans and shifting it after. Going to pose this idea and see what they will go for!

Don't dismiss a signum!

As big as an estate but 4 seats.
Boot big enough to accommodate a fridge.
Roof bigenough for 4 bikes on a rack...

Signums make great le mans charriots. Buy one in blue and tribute livery.is piss easy - Signumtech Alpine!

Poorly applied shed-onomics there. If it's a buy/drive/sell for same money shed it's "Surely a barge you can insure for a month (and then cancel/get the other 11 months back) for £400/£500 is going to be much more fun?". Can't think of anything that would sell for shed money that would code £6000/year to insure!

Not exactly the same but in recent years I’ve done the journey in something special; at least not a bogo car. Top spec X5, FFRR, M3 were the last 3 years.

This year however I bought a new house lightening my fund somewhat so I bought this....

...For £670.

It now looks like this...
