We've decided to try the overnight crossing from Portsmouth to Caen this year. The hope is we avoid the worst of the Thursday traffic so when we arrive at our campsite and get the tent up it'll be time to hop on the tram into town for some lunch and light refreshment.

As the ferry docks at 06:45 we thought it might be nice to stop off somewhere enroute for breakfast. Has anyone done this in the past and found somewhere they could recommend? We don't mind a small diversion if it's worth it, we'd just rather avoid service station food.

The Aire du soulange est. (think that’s how it’s spelt on the autoroute between Caen and Alencon has a nice little chip van.

However Ouistreham to Le Mans is only a couple of hours drive just get down here and start on the Bevvies!

I've done that route many times, and we always started the day with the cooked brekkie on the ferry, there's enough time to enjoy breakfast as you come into Ouistreham - which then allows a diversion free run to the campsite

There are a couple of restaurants open for breakfast in the square at Ouistreham as well - perfectly pleasant and then a clean run down to LM

If you fancy a slight de-tour you could pop to Trun, the brunch stop I used to use when taking the Portsmouth-Le Havre route, and where the pic in my profile was taken.
