We have a rough plan to leave our campsite pretty early on Friday morning, go for a bit of a drive and get breakfast somewhere before heading to St. Saturnin and I was wondering if anybody has any knowledge of decent driving roads (ideally beyond the grasp of Les Gendarmes) and/or a decent breaky location?

Our party includes some tasty machinery so would be good to ahem 'stretch their legs' somewhat.

Many thanks!

Sounds like the gendarmes Christmas party is going to be a good one this year!

Will France’s finest really be interested in little D roads?

Makes for a good “I’ve had my car impounded and now I have to walk back” thread after the weekend.

Just a personal view, but I’d have thought the single worse place to cock about in ‘tasty metal’ would be anywhere within 20 miles of Le Mans on the Friday..... not withstanding the chances of falling foul of an early morning breathalyser (assuming you are not a visiting contingent from the U.K. Temperance Society).

I believe the French drink drive limit is lower than England & Wales too, worth bearing in mind

Hotel de France
20 Place de la République, 72340 La Chartre-sur-le-Loir, France
It’s about 45 mins south of Le Mans but worth a trip. Lots of teams stayed there in the 50’s especially Aston Martin so lots of history.
Usually a good selection of cars outside. Not sure about breakfast although there is a boulangerie there. You can google there website for more info.

I'll just echo the above -- if there's an easy catch for the boys in bleu it'll be in the vicinity of the circuit de la sarthe - we used to go to Chartre sur le loire - it's a great drive out and a town steeped in Le Mans history.. but the gendarmes had speed traps on the most popular roads, if it wasn't for the locals warning us I'd have got nabbed for enthusiastic driving - and that was in 2000 - I think they've got more focused in recent years..
Of course in a chat forum I wouldn't advocate having a scout out to find a nearby D road that looks inviting and doing a couple of laps to get the feel of it before driving it with your buddies...

Pah....ignore the above ...the French police have a wonderful sense of humour, so I'd just let em rip down the Mulsanne Straight and win some well deserved adulation from the watching fans

Well, I thought that would be the case too.
However, one of our bunch has managed to book a table for 10, for lunch. Only booked about 2 to 3 weeks ago. I was surprised.
