Question: what are my options regarding stickers. I spent nearly as much on them as the trip (ok it felt like it) this year for not a whole lot.

I want to something big next year. Should I print my own? Worried about stickiness to car, paintwork issues etc. What do people do besides ordering from the usual?

The group I go with are lucky enough to have access to a Vinyl Sticker cutter like you can see with the link.
They are really good and quickly pay for themselves as you can buy plain vinyl for very little. They also allow you to do everything custom sizes and designs. As you can see from my groups stickers this year it was invaluable.

I believe the stickeredupforlemans guys do a bespoke service so worth putting a call into them.

Other than that, just search 'large format printers' in your local area. You'll probably find that it costs more to set the design and artwork up than it does to actually print the stickers.....unless you've a friendly Graphic Designer to hand.

There's several options of substrate suitable for temporary application - you just need to explain your needs to the supplier.

One option that I have seen (though not in a Le Mans context) are the graphics printed into position on a transparent sticker that is cut to the shape of the body panel. So instead of fixing four or five separate stickers, you fix just one.

Bigger standard stickers are great value as are the larger vinyl cut versions (i.e. large standard design in custom colours). The stickeredupfromlemans also go on and come off pain free. Unlike some others, some even had sticky residue to attract dust when fresh on! and left sticky residue.

Custom vinyl cut can be time-consuming apply and peeling off, so again the large ones printed on a clear vinyl background (one sticker on and one to remove).

Smaller stuff, even in packs can be at lot dearer. Looking at mine this year: bigger stuff can be say, 5 times dearer but 25 times bigger in area covered.

Just google local vinyl print services. I've had bespoke, unique livery on my TVR's for years now. You simply draft an idea (I cut and paste logos etc from t'internet into a word doc) and give approximate dimensions. Much cheaper than stickeredup4lemans. Those guys do a great job supplying off the shelf stuff, they appear to have cornered the market so fair play to them for spotting the opportunity. They are expensive though, I get my bespoke livery for less than half what off the shelf would cost from stickered up

Thanks for all the advice chaps, it's very much appreciated.

My stepson and nephew came for the first time this year, 12 and 14. They both said that while I really sold it to them it is actually 10 times better than I described. I don't know how that is even possible?!

Both are positively obsessed and depressed with an 11 month wait. Despite the cramped conditions they insist we must go again in the sports car. So next year I want to do a special on it.

I'll look up local shops and do a design with the boys as suggested.

I got a mate to do mine with his vinyl cutter. 5 large stickers and a few small ones for £25 :-) I specifically wanted plain black stickers to got with the overall theme of the car.

I'm definitely going to make friends with a sign shop or someone with a cutter!

I did mine the day after I got back. It's the cold shock treatment, it has made the recovery easier.
The step son and nephew are first timers this year, they are both now struggling to understand how they are going to be able to wait until next year.
As one of them said to me - "I used to think you over did it going on and on about it, but now I get it, I totally get it, I dream about it every night, I just want to go back there"

Ha ha! Yes it's really not worth thinking about.
Kenny Roberts went from rider, world champion, team owner to manufacturer.
Then he quit it all and became a fan, and said he didn't realise what an involved job that was just getting to circuits and following all the action.

Yes the both boys caught it bad. Both can't think about anything else. But then I get it, I seem to have the same problem most weeks of my life!
I was lucky, first 2 trips didn't leave me hooked...once I found the right set up however that was it, I was finished.
