Thought i would ask while its still fresh in your minds. several of us from the Tiger owners club will be going next year (virgins) and have no idea on camping??

i know I will get 20 different opinions from you guy but this is what we are looking for:

Good area not to close to the noise but walking distance
Less chance of Pikeys in the camp site.
Good facilities, loos and areas to wash. Maybe even a shower

we have been looking at Karting Nord, Maison Blanche or Camping Houx .

any tips welcomed

regards

Matt

I was in Karting nord 2 years ago and it was better than Houx this year - IMO.

I think we will be at a private came somewhere in '06 - although maybe the airtrack/tours VIP one??

I wouldn't bother doing Caen or LeHavre, frankly. There's a fast clear motorway from Calais/Boulogne to Rouen - it's a toll road but not much money. Calais/Boulogne ferries are seriously cheaper.

As I live only 1 hour and a bit from Poole/bournmouth it would be much easyer for us to go from their. I now it would be cheaper going from Calais/Boulogne but it would cost us alot in fuel.

Our Tigers only get about 20-25MPG on the motorways and we have a 150 mile tank range so frequent fuel stops are needed even going the shortest routes.

Thats why we are looking at going to Caen or LeHavre.

I've stayed in Houx twice and Beausejour once. I'd not go so far as to say that the toilets in Houx are "good". If you like standing up dumping into a hole in the floor then good luck to you, but the beausejour toilets actually have seats. This doesn't matter though because it's too far away from the village.

Good Evening Matt & Matt

We have historically booked through the TVRCC although we are considering going through ACO direct next year. Some of my mates book through the ACO every year so the info will be coming from them, I'm on the case so as and when the info comes through I will keep you posted.

As for camping - it depends how long you want to go for? Maison Blanche is the best site (5 mins walk to grandstand/track or 30 seconds to a bank with a viewpoint!) but you have to arrive early (Wednesday at the latest to get a good pitch)
If you are arriving any later then Houx is a good bet with a guaranteed pitch (although very dusty it has a better atmosphere)

Any questions fire away.

I stayed in Houx for the first time this year, and found there is actually a portacabin of proper loos and modern showers only 5 mins walk away from the ' squat jobs' mentioned.

Ive been 3 years with Airtrack - this is the best IMO.

Its a fully secure site - guard dogs, fenced in, cars checked for passes etc. Its located near the karting circuit.

They have an on site bar and shop, TV, electrical supplies etc.

They had approx 28 toilets/showers for the 700 people, so even in rush hour the queue is never longer than about 8 people, and they are cleaned 3-4 times a day.

The best bit is the clientele - the cars parked on this relatively small site (approx 700 people) are better than at some motor shows:

dozen or Ferraris, Porsches, RR, Bentleys, Lambos, Lotus, TVR, Morgan etc

We had 2 marquees in our group (we had 10 pitches) and we had home video projector set up with amp etc, a twin axle refrigerated trailer full of beer/food....we neve thought once about packing stuff away or worrying about getting stuff nicked - other people on the campsite had similar set-ups...and people with £100K+ cars generally are not interested stealing your bag!

highly recommended - I will be there next year with them again - of course they are not the cheapest and are usually sold out by Jan. Approx £550 per car inc tunnel crossing for a 30sqm pitch for Thursday-Sunday inclusive.

cheers
