Despite having booked (last month) a room in a Le Mans hotel for next June, the very large hotel chain in question has advised us that their hotel is closed on that particular weekend, and that despite telling us that there was alternative accommodation arranged for us, they have now backed out.
It looks like it's too late to get any hotel rooms now.
Please does anyone have any ideas? Any B&B recommendations? etc etc

Thanks

Simon

In my experienced, most Hotels in the vicinity are booked up year on year.....

I am surprised you found one in the first place.

If you're happy to travel 20 miles to get into LM, try Le Ferte Bernard, there are a few hotels there.

I found this place for our trip to Classic Le Mans next year.

Cheers,

How do you know which weekend it is going to be? The date is currently unconfirmed by the ACO unless your hotel has been given an insight from them?

Is this just a way to avoid a mistakenly cheap rate d'ya think? Anyway, sounds like breach of contract to me and in theory you'd be entitled to damages as it is now too late to book elsewhere. Probably not worth the hassle of course but if it is a big chain it might be worth a letter to the MD or Chairman and seeing if you get lucky....

I don't know what the date is yet. The last time I looked on the ACO site it wasn't released, but you have to make a guess.
When you start looking for accommodation on a particular weekend and you find everywhere is booked up, you obviously are not alone in thinking it's going to be that date.
Although it seems we are still too late for hotel accommodation.
Don't worry the hotel group in question will be getting some correspondence from me, all in good time.
It doesn't help us for 2006 though. We've done camping several years before and just fancy a change.
Maybe we should go to the classic next year.

Classic is great.

Don't expect to find a hotel within 15 miles of the place though.

We booked with Novotel central booking as I new the weekend was to be changed in 2005.

We got the room for £60 a night and the Hotel tried about 10 times to cancel the booking.

Just refuse to let them cancel the booking, tell them you have already booked the Ferry and that you have a confirmed booking.

We got our 3 rooms without a problem this year.

It seems there never was any accommodation booked for us. It's a clerical error on their part (which they have admitted to), but nevertheless still means no reservation, so no point in turning up at their door.
I can't believe how popular Le Mans has become since about '99, and can't see how I will be there at all next year. It is probably now full up with lads on stag dos with no real interest in cars.
If people book for the following year on checking out of the hotel, how the hell is anyone else supposed to get in? You try to book a year in advance online or on the phone, but the hotels won't take bookings that far in advance.
I've even tried to find accommodation for the classic over the last couple of days, but no joy.
The camping in Houx Annexe has become a p*ss take by the frogs, as they just sell passes to get in the gate, with no thought of how many people can fit in, and from what I've read on here, trying to book camping is probably just as difficult as the hotels.

I've been going nearly every year since '84. I've decided that this years LM was the last.
It's become too commercialised, too busy and the genuine car enthusiasts are being overshadowed by the "Pissed Lads on Tour" brigade. I've found that even the Festival of Speed ain't what it used to be, but that's "progress" I suppose.
The last weekend in May, next year sees the Grand Prix Historique de Pau. Beautiful town, proper street circuit and cars to die for.
Adieu Le Mans, Bounjour Pau.

We booked the Green 7 hotel via Expedia this year. Only to be told by Expedia 6 weeks before the event that the booking had been cancelled by the hotel
Turns out the hotel cocked up the weekend and forgot to change their booking with a German travel company from the previous weekend which is when Le Mans was originally scheduled for............

Same here .... Very disappointed that over the last 7 years the whole atmosphere has changed. It wont be long before the French Police adopt a Zero tolerance policy too.

Almost has the ariel ripped off the car this year by some asshole chav who thought it would be funny to pull the flag that was cable tied to it.

If I do change my mind, then next year I will be camping a few miles outside Le Mans, will drive in to watch the race, and drive out again.

Agreed. Last year I had my tent broken into and my electric razor stolen - punks!! It was 5 years old and on its last legs, but that's not the point. Gave it a miss this year but may go again next year

I have a house in Avoise, about 20 mins drive from Le Mans which will be to let for both the 24 hrs and the Classic next year, 2006. Sleeps four in comfort; on the riverbank and fully equipped; spacious and super for a holiday taking in the events. Details by e.mail from me at jvhandsah@hotmail.com

I stayed at the Novotel in Le Mans this summer and made the mistake about asking availability for the race weekend next year. I was nearly laughed out the hotel. The whole place is taken over by a team year after year. Camping is the only way - and the tickets are cheaper!

Have done Le Mans for 11 years now and it has changed over the last 4 years or so.
It seems to double in size every year. This year we were at the track till 2am and it still took us 90 mins to get the car away.

This year we stayed about 10 miles out side Le Mans, in a great chateau in Sille Du Phillepe (sorry, spelling could be bad) No waiting for showers or toilets. The place even had a couple of teams staying there, plus the bar was open 24 hours with a widescreen tv to watch the race. 30 of us are going back next year. This time we will get taxi's to and from the track to save time. The owner for next year has even reduced the number of people allowed to camp to made things easier, he has increased the price a little but it's well worth it.

nah, we were there this year as per the post above!

the hotel was inhabited by Corvette followers this year and a load of Ferrari owners, I dont believe its teams...
