Good "back roads" route from Boulougne to Le Mans Anybody?
Discussion
We will be arriving in Boulougne at about 8.00am on Thursday the 15th of June. As we are Le Mans virgins we havn't a clue which would be the best route to take. We don't fancy the motorways, so therefore could somebody suggest a nice "scenic" route or is it just a case of follow somebody?

feck me, well you're leaving yourself enough time for the journey down!
Well spotted Shnozz! Original post now editted.

The 1:200,000 Michelin makes a good starter, then a more local map for the Le Mans area itself, so you can spot the other routes in and out and the trak is active and roads are closed.

Tripps,
Any chance you could include me on your "route" email.
A nice alternative to the Autoroutes would be grand...
Thanks in advance..
Me too if you don't mind, I'm travelling 24hours before most of and quite fancy an alternative route this year!

Sorry to jump on the bandwagon somewhat here, but any chance I could have a copy of that route.
There will be no problem with us all clashing, as I and my convoy are going down on the Wednesday afternoon!
Thanks!
What time are you crossing?
Thanks very much for the route - I have some re-planning to do!
Incidentally, I was entirely incorrect in my previous post. My convoy is crossing on the 0745 Dover->Boulogne Speedferries on Wednesday morning.
What about you?

Me too please, I think I am arriving at the same time on the 15th.
But rather than all of us follow the same roads, I'd suggest you experiment, there are literally trillions (Ok, maybe not quite!) of fantastic roads over there, if you see a tree-lined two mile straight, then follow that, a intersting hill with twsisty road, up you go!
In 2004 we did it blind and followed intersting roads, as with just two cars and two-way radios it was easy to do. We knew where we wanted to get to and havd an idea of where we could stop for lunch (along the banks of the Seinne around Vernon), picked a base route while crossing using D and N roads, then kept around those roads making detours along the way, stopping for snacks and fuel etc. That was certainly the best drive in France so far, as the more cars you have with you, the slower you end up going.
If you've not got a good navigator, then you can use SatNav to keep you on track or as a backup if you get lost. The map view is also useful for spotting overtaking oppurtunities too.
PMSL. You've well and truly fecked up your quiet trip down now Rob haven't you mate
Just imagining this line of 600 cars behind you!
First year I went we got off the ferry and chased after all the sports cars on Brit plates. Ended up way off route where they were all goingf or breakfast

I'm a cunning tactician though, if they all follow that route, I'll give the Gendarmes a tip-off to go and get 'em, then use the new autoroute for v-max testing

Should be on schedule for end of Feb sometime
Bit like an expectant father at the moment (I guess).
Current plan is over the next two weeks is to get the driveway sorted so I can at least get it off the road, over the camber and into the garage.
3-1/2" clearance doesn't exactly leave a lot of room for the drop into my garage.
