WWII Bomb unearthed at LeMans

A bomb dating from the second world war, left ground by work currently in hand on the Circuit of the "24 Hours of Mans", was neutralized during the morning of Wednesday January 11.

In the jargon suitable for the competition, it would have been question of neutralization of the test. In the circumstances lived Tuesday January 10 on the circuit, the word neutralization doubly found its place, insofar as the discovery, by an excavator, of a bomb involved at once, for reasons of safety, the neutralization of the building site, before the bomb disposal experts of the civil safety of Caen do not intervene directly on the bomb, to neutralize it.
This draining, carried out in the morning of Wednesday January 11, was spread out over 50 mn, necessary time to demolish the two rockets located at the ends of the bomb, in order to definitively put out of state to harm the mechanism of percussion. This bomb, of 250 kg whose 125 kg of explosive, is of American origin and approaches that updated December beginning, on a building site carried out near the Private clinic of the Red Hillock, not far from the turn of the Circuit of very the nom… In the past, the other work undertaken on the Circuit had known similar situation, as it was the case during winter 2001/2002, at the time of the refitting of the turn of the Vault.
The proximity of the circuit of the "24 Hours" with the aerodrome and, more still, the marshalling yard, explains why this sector of the city was a particular target of the bombardments of war 39/45.
Since, the green flag was presented for an active resumption of the work, undertaken for the modification of the Dunlop speed reducer and the installation of the future Village of the Circuit.
