Quick query - does anyone know whether Porsche are entering their real racing car this year or are they staying in N.America?.

Shame on them if not....

I assume you mean the LMP2 car as oppsed to the GT 911's? I asked the same question last week:

Not sure but I doubt it. Think they're staying in the states for now.

Thanks,

Porsche really do need to get their act in order. The GT3RSR - whilst nice, is no way to maintain their brand equity. Spend some money Wiedenking, before the damage is done!

Yea, all that constantly winning one make 911 series and most LMGT/ALMS GT2 class victories must really put off the buyers...

Porsche at Le Mans, surely these two go together like nothing else?

After 17 straight race wins over the years I’d love to see them return to proper winning ways again. Lets face it beating a few TVR’s and Fiat’s in the GT class is not really where it’s at for a company with the most envied record of all at the 24

Not sure this LMP2 thing is the car to do it in, perhaps is only a tentative starter to the main event in a year or two’s time?

Perhaps they should move the 911s to GT1 and bring in some Caymans to GT1 instead, go for domination of the GT classes first...

And a Cayenne in LMP2

No Le Mans in '06, but they will go in '07.

Porsche will stay in LMP2 for a while. The costs of LMP1 (plus they wouldn't race against 'family') and GT1 are too much.

...for the world`s most profitable car company? Weak argument Wiedenking!

The corporate world and the incessant demand for shareholder value has snuffled Porsche - no iconic sports racers in the future will, without doubt, erode the brand equity that Porsche has built. Even Fiat (one of the worlds most unprofitable car companies!) still stump up for the Marlboro racers...

Profit making GT3RS programmes and poxy one make series do not do justice to the legacy of the 917 and 956/62.

To be fair the German government don't go against EU rule and subsidise any of their manufactuers though...

Ettore, you missed my comment about not racing against 'family' in LMP1. This is a very important consideration, as I'm sure you know.

For the GT side of things, Porsche will race against marketplace competitors. Yes, it should have raced the Carrera GT in GT1, but the cost would've been huge and Porsche could obviously see the Maserati homologation special on the horizon.

I didn`t miss the family comment - I just ignored it! I have heard it spouted several times but they remain seperate companies and Porsche, at Le Mans, shouldn`t be frightened of anyone....

The Carrera GT is based upon a previously pulled competition car - it should race. Porsche have more than sufficient cash in the bank to fund a full and proper international motor racing campaign in GT1 or LMP1 - anything else is a swizz.
