What day to arrive?

Hopefully I’ll be between contracts when Le Mans comes this year. So, I’ll me a man of leisure for the summer, which means not having to squeeze a long Le Mans weekend in between available days off work.

So what’s the best day to get there? I see there’s administrative checks and scrutineering going on Monday and Tuesday but the first track action isn’t until Wednesday. Is it worth getting there for Monday or even the previous Saturday? Or is it all a bit quiet and boring until Wednesday?

Also what about the test day a couple of weeks before? Is that any good? I was thinking of doing both with a bit of a European driving tour in between. Le Mans – Spa – Amsterdam – Nurburgring – Le Mans has quite an attractive look to it.

Just checked and the 12 hours of Spa round of the Belgian Touring Car Series is on Sun 11th. The BTCS is more like a GT championship with 911´s and 360´s racing. So the schedule below could make a nice road trip:

3-4 Le Mans testing
5-7 On the piss in Amsterdam
8-9 Public days at the Nurburgring (if they’re open)
10-11 12 Hours of Spa
12-18 Le Mans week

Might as well give yourself an extra day at Spa. Pitch up at LM on the Tuesday afternoon or early doors Wednesday.

Wednesdays a good day, all is little chilled, you can buy your beers without too many queues and enjoy the first two qualifying sessions.
