We have spent the last few years camping in an idylic little village campsite about10kms from the track. We have all decided we would like to be closer to the action this year on the Saturday night, and i have no idea which site is the saftest/best to book for this night just as a crash pad??

If you can get transport to the circuit you can walk on to any of the campsites (you may have to show a general enclosure ticket). If you are going to do that I would say Houx Annexe; its a whole lot of fun but most importantly there is likely to be a bit of space to pitch a tent late in the day. If you want to go the official way and take your car on you will have a bit of scratching around to do to get hold of a camping pass. Beausejour is a bit far out but there are tickets left and once again it will suit you because there will be space left on Sat.
