Chaps,

What are the best vantage points IYO for great photo's at Le Mans.
I've done Arnage and Porsche Curves, but looking to diversify the type of shots this year.

Any examples of locations ?

Inside of Tetre Rouge on the banking depending on how they've rebuilt this area.
From the Big Wheel looking down onto the chicane before the start finish straight.
Roof of the karting building overlooking the Ford Chicane.
Inside of Indianapolis...
Front of the tribune above the garages looking down into the pits.
Mulsanne corner ?
Helicopter trip ?

Head to the exit of the esses and take up position on the banking amongst the pine trees. If you have a fast zoom lens you'll be able to get a good shot of them coming up the hill without the catch fencing getting in the way. As they drift towards the exit of the corner they get close but the catch fencing ruins the photo. Alternatively walk to the very end of the outfield at Tertre Rouge. The fence is only 3 foot high so you can get a shot through the trees of the cars heading onto the Mulsanne, again you need a big zoom, 300mm should do!

They've all been taken from spots where the average punter cant go! I dont think photographers passes are too easy to come by at Le Mans so you'd never get a shot as good as those.
However, I've had a go:
1 & 2. Mulsanne Straight
3. Indianapolis (I think)
4. Ford Chicane
5. Somewhere on the Porsche Curves
6. Just about to turn into Mulsanne corner
7. Exit of the Dunlop Chicane
8. Could be the exit of the Esses??

They're rocking horse sh*t. The ACO seem to cut down on the photographer passes each year, just as Happy Snapper how hard it is to get, and he's been going for years

1 Exit of Tetre Rouge looking down Mulsanne Straight shot from the outside of the track

2. just past the pub at Terte Rouge the line of trees that will go when the station is installed

3. Indianapolis left. Indy is two corners right then left this is the second part shot from just behind the barries about 1/3 of the way down to Arnarge

4. First part of Dunlop (but gone now) shot from outside looking across the track

5. At the bottom of the sweep just after the Bugatti circiut turns right its the start of the rise into the sweep down to Tetre Rouge

6. Just passed the rise before the little down hill to Terte rouge (the next corner after number 5)

7. Exit of the Dunlop Chicane

8. Tetre Rouge late in the afternoon

I like shooting the start either form just below Dunlop or end of Mulsanne.
Entry to Porsche curves can be good you can get three shots head on or panning
Indy then Arnarge
Sunrise is always through Dunlop Bridge as the sun comes up or the end or Mulsanne as the mist appears shoot down the road as the cars appear
Either of the two chicanes can be good and plenty of different shots
At Night time top of TV tower or in to ford or Dunlop
for the finish directly opposite the finish line (outside) or last year from the ACO club house looking down towards Porsche was drinking with Mr Ickx in the bar then popping outside take a few pictures and back into the bar.

Panning I shoot at anything from 1/20 to 1/250 depending what I'm shooting, night time have the lens wide open and shoot with the available light some of the shoots at Play station from last year were shot at 1000th it depends on how the light and movement of the car feel, what I’m trying to get is it a pin sharp image of a car or is it my interpretation of what the car is doing I don’t use hard and fast rules for shooting you have to sometimes but I prefer not too.

Go and have a look at some of the galleries on my web site and not just the Motorsport stuff..

Nice photos Keith, I see you like the motion blur shots quite a lot. I must have a go at that method.
Can you recomend any of your peer's websites for further inspiration.

From working with Captain for a go few years they dont have to be semi naked! Warm, pulse is an option but not a requirment
