You can still get a crossing from the Team Langoustine guys Dover-Boulogne for £75.
Unfortunately the crossing to St Marlow is 6 Hrs.
If you are set on going from the Southcoast, then try the fast craft from Portsmouth to Cherbourg. 2,3/4 hours. And the run from Cherbourg is supperb down past the D Day beaches. This used to be run by P&O but has been taken over by a French company. Sorry can't give you anymore details.

Check out the www.directferries.com website as they do some good deals. (Just got a Norfolk Line crossing for less than it would have cost via NL's own website)

As are Speedferries at £38 return if you book a block of five return crossings (if the offer is still running).

Norforfolk Line are great 15 mins further than calais and cost £35 quid for a car on the Thrs and £68 for a 22ft Motorhome. and its not full of coaches so very quick on and off good food and dirt cheap.
