Try your insurance company, see if you can add it on. It might work out the best deal.

The guy I'm driving down with has organised his through the AA.

Although it may not have been the cheapest, it is worth looking through the small print. Some other companies will only do 'roadside repairs' and/or take you to the nearest garage rather than a no questions asked tow service back to the U.K.

Just depends if you are happy with a random French garage repairing your pride and joy.

Second calling your insurer, you may be covered already.

I am with Footman James. After SPA last year (incident where the Ardennes forest took aversion to all my cooling pipes at 120mph) i was stranded on the hard shoulder. Called them and they managed the whole recovery and if we needed it would have had a hire car delivered to the spot to get us home too.

and this is all included in my policy and did not affect my renewals either!

edited to say - no quibbles at all about repatriation and to a garage / location of my choice too. (did take 2 weeks, something to do with a lot of high performance Brit cars broken down on the way to Belgian GP last year !! but this is P&J not daily driver, so no worry for me, could be an issue for some though)

Im sure there were some promo codes going around last year for the AA or RAC ? They get swamped with calls on the run up to Le Mans so the lady told me last year

unless you are on a bike, where you will come back asap and the bike will follow sometime later in the next fortnight or so. They have a van which does a tour of europe every week picking up broken bikes.

DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT

I broke down on the way down last year (water pump failure)
I had AA Euro cover.
Due to the age of the car the premium was almost £70.
I had no complaints regarding replacement car, customer care etc.
However, I do understand the RAC offer discounts for car club members.
I could have left the car for collection by others, and was told the same ..."three to four weeks before your car will arrive home to the isle of man".
I decided to have the car trucked to calais, drove her on/off the ferry and met another truck in dover for the few mile trip to a friends spot, where i carried out the repairs.

This year i have changed insurers. My new policy includes european recovery/breakdown cover, however, i will be checking the small print before setting off .....SIX WEEKS TODAY !!!!

cheers, d

Just checked with the AA (I'm a member) and its going to cost me £29 for European cover for 5 days over LM. Seems fair

They seem to have the cerb down a saloon though

I'm with the RAC, but the best (and cheapest) deal was with Direct Line. Purely by chance the car is insured with them, but I forgot to mention this when asking for a quote

I've been looking at this recently and while Direct Line were the cheapest I found, their cover doesnt seem to be anywhere near as good as the AA's - who quoted me about £60...principle difference was in DL's £250 limit on repairs, while AA's was a couple of grand.

5 days with insureandgo for £16.76. What's the catch? T&Cs seem OK.
