Has anyone had speeding-related hassle after dark in France ? I'm talking about motorway/A road, not Houx roundabout or Arnage village.

I think as long as your not too silly, you should be ok. What night you driving down?
The only thing i've heard is they'll watching the new motorway like hawks, so it may leave the scenic route free for some speed. Just watch the solid lines!!

I'm driving down on Friday afternoon/evening, as we can't leave until my son has finished his last GCSE. ETA at Houx 23.00. I'll probably go motorway via Paris. Last time I drove around Paris at night everybody was speeding, even overtaking local plod who were also speeding. I just can't recall ever seeing police on the motorways at night.

The only Gendarme I've seen out at night was a fully loaded Clio that struggled past me when I was in a gentle ton-up cruise on the way to the LM Classic the other year, they didn't give me a 2nd look.

I live in France and would give you this advice: Gendarmes always hide on downhills so if you want a motorway (or route nationale) blast do so on long uphills and back of to around the speed limit as you come over the brow. Also look out for people approaching you flashing their headlights - it's a friendly tip that "les flics" are lurking.

Not going . My first house is ready in a month or so (€€€€ ) and (so-called) friends couldn't commit early enough. Utterly distraught.
